Indie video game developer CALYXIR announced its first game “The Abased” will bring players to a time before the Flood as they play as a leprosy-stricken man working to protect society.
“Play as Elyhias, a leper and fallen faith enforcer marked by affliction. Armed with slings and blades, you must face the resurgent giants who once ruled the ancient land. In exchange, you are promised atonement and cleaning before your flesh succumbs to abasement,” reads a description of the Bible-inspired game.
Developers of the game have revealed that the game will feature multiple systems that reward players for a slow, methodical approach, rather than attempting to brute force every part of the game. Players will focus on battling giants that are threatening trade and other key aspects of society. The game will also feature a spiritual aspect that players will have to pay attention to.

While faith-based projects have seen a major rise in popularity across the TV, movie and music industries, few high-quality biblical video games have come onto the market. This fact is disappointing as video games serve as the most interactive form of entertainment — meaning a faith-based video game would have the most potential to impact a person’s faith out of any form of content.
Video games, however, also take arguably more time and effort to create than other forms of content because of how extensive they are. Faith-based video game “Gate Zero,” for example, was announced in the summer of 2023 and has still yet to receive a release date. This game promises to bring players to Bible times and allow them to interact with the world Jesus would have walked.
“We really want to dive into creating a game for the younger generation to be able to experience Jesus and to be able to get familiar with the stories and events from the Bible,” “Gate Zero” game designer Arve Solli told Faithwire.
“We believe that the younger generation [needs to get] familiar with the Bible,” he said. “They need to be able to understand on what ground they are taking the decisions, so we see the gaming medium as a really effective way of giving them context, telling the stories and also interacting with the stories and events, so… they are able to understand the significance of the message that Jesus came with.”
Faith-based video games are a cause for celebration as they hold the potential to impact the faith of millions of players. “The Abased” has yet to receive a release date, but the trailer for the game suggests development is well under way.
