“Angry Birds” received the honor of being inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame in Rochester, New York, highlighting how the it helped launch mobile gaming.
“What started as a game with incredibly simple mechanics and instantly recognizable designs has conquered transmedia categories far beyond its origins,” said “Angry Birds” creative officer Ben Mattes. “We’ve got our live games, but ‘Angry Birds’ can also be enjoyed as licensed products, animations, feature films and activity parks. While the brand is very versatile and the different forms it takes allow our fans to experience their world in new ways, at the end of the day, it’s still all about iconic birds, their crafty antagonists and the conflict between them that results in entertaining and spectacular consequences, all doused with humor.”

“Characters, emotion and story are what keeps our fans coming back to our games year after year. The induction to the World Video Game Hall of Fame means we are standing shoulder to shoulder alongside the very greatest of gaming,” Mattes continued. “This is a truly special recognition for us and we’re deeply honored by it.”
“Angry Birds” stands as a titan in the mobile gaming industry with over 5 billion downloads across the series, along with its own movie franchise inspired by the characters introduced throughout the numerous spinoff games.
Despite starting as a goofy game with characters full of personality, the movies and TV shows that have spawned from the franchise teach surprisingly strong lessons to their viewers. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the first “Angry Birds” movie reads:
THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE is interesting and colorful, with some very funny and even touching moments. The main message is positive. Anger is seen as a negative, destructive emotion when misused for selfish reasons, such as frustration or pride, but it’s justified under certain circumstances, such as defending a loved one. There is some rude humor, innuendo and destructive cartoon violence in THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE, however. So, caution for older children is advised.
The franchise has produced two movies, and a third one is on the way, set to release in 2027.
“ANGRY BIRDS transcends mediums and has been embraced and celebrated the world over,” said Marc Weinstock, President of Worldwide Marketing & Distribution at Paramount Pictures. “We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with Sega/Rovio and these other great partners to bring this latest installment, featuring an incredible voice cast, to big screens everywhere.”
The “Angry Birds” franchise certainly deserves its place in the World Video Game Hall as it has entertained players for over 15 years and continues to stands as one of the most recognizable franchises in all of mobile gaming.
