An independent game developer for Roblox spoke out against the games child safety measures, urging parents to use caution if allowing their children on the platform.

The developer, who remained anonymous, told the BBC in an interview that parents should monitor their children “24/7” when on the platform, “and if that’s not possible, then they shouldn’t be playing Roblox.”

He explained that violent games proliferate across Roblox, which attracts 80 million players each year, 40% of which are under 13.

“I have seen games where the goal is to shoot as many people as possible in the depicted version of Sandy Hook or Columbine. I’ve seen remakes of Epstein Island on Roblox,” he warned.

He also emphasized that he’s “seen people on this platform be lured into engaging in ways that they shouldn’t with complete strangers.”

A Roblox spokesperson said, “safety is a top priority, and we have advanced safeguards and filters designed to prevent harmful content and communications on our platform to keep all our users safe.”

But that doesn’t always seem to be the case.

A YouTuber known as Schlep experienced grooming on the platform. He began playing on Roblox when he was 8 years old. He remembered being invited to a STEM event where he connected with the game’s biggest developers. At first the relationship was innocent, but then it turned.

“For years, this guy used power dynamics and groomed me,” Schlep told EastIdahoNews.com in September. “The manipulation left me exposed to horrible, depraved stuff.”

By the time he was 15, he attempted suicide. When his mother reached out to Roblox asking for answers, Roblox responded with the suicide hotline email.

Schlep remained in the Roblox community as a way to build his YouTube channel, but then kids began reaching out to him about predators they encountered on the platform.

“This was a game you’d never expect predators to be in,” he said.

So, Schlep began to seek out the predators and get them banned from the Roblox completely. Some of the predators’ usernames were “‘BabyBreeder9’ ‘PeduRayPvist,’ ‘MAP4AAM’ (AAM means ‘adult attracted minor’) and ‘YoungNFertile.'”

As Schlep dove deeper, he found that there was a “child sexual abuse material trading ring where adults were giving kids Robux, the platform’s in-game currency, in exchange for sexually explicit material.”

That’s when Schlep partnered with “experienced predator catchers, learned investigative techniques, and started to run decoy operations. Using fake accounts, he and collaborators posed as children and arranged meetups with adults seeking sex. In less than a year, he says their work led to six arrests — and now, the first guilty plea from a Roblox predator.”

Last August, Roblox banned Schlep from the platform.

He recently shared his story on “The Shawn Ryan Show,” continuing to expose how dangerous Roblox is for children.

“My episode with Shawn Ryan is officially live. Before it aired, Roblox attempted to appear on the show ahead of me, likely because of what I was about to reveal to millions of parents,” Schlep shared on Instagram. “In this interview, I publicly name my abuser for the first time, expose disturbing games Roblox is actively platforming, and share evidence every parent and user needs to see.”

Schlep then urged parents and other users to continue “spreading awareness” on this disturbing matter.

“We need to continue spreading awareness about the real dangers on these platforms. Please share this episode with any parents, friends, or family members so more people understand what’s really happening and how to stay safe online,” he wrote.

Schlep’s story serves as an important reminder that parents need to stay vigilant and protect their vulnerable children from hidden dangers online.
