Another MLB star has proclaimed the good news of Jesus!
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter shared Exodus 34:6 in a post on Instagram. The verse reads, “The Lord passed in front of Moses and said, ‘I am the Lord. The Lord is a God who shows mercy, who is kind, who doesn’t become angry quickly, who has great love and faithfulness.'”
“I am so thankful to get to do what I love every day but I’m praising God for Himself, for being a God who is merciful to me, gracious and slow to anger (thank you, Jesus), and abounds in love for us. In Jesus’ matchless name,” the athlete wrote in the caption.
In nearly every post on his social media platform, Carpenter talks about his faith.

He found Christ in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Carpenter tragically lost his father that year, which caused him to ask hard questions and seek answers in the Bible.
“It just kind of manifested in freedom and peace that Christ gave me on the field because that’s something that before I knew Christ, I never had,” the outfielder said of his faith on an episode of the “Sports Spectrum” podcast in 2023. “Never played a baseball game in freedom or peace.”
Throughout his entire career, Carpenter has faced much adversity, but he knows that God has a purpose for it all.
“One of my purposes, I really feel, is that God has put me here to go through those ups and downs and to show that my ups and downs don’t affect my identity,” he told Sports Spectrum in 2024. “That’s something I always think about, always want to be a witness. I always want to be an ambassador.”
His greatest aspiration? “To play free.”
“My goal is to reach my full potential, and I believe that the only way you can reach your full potential is in Christ,” he emphasized.
“I pray that people look at this moment and ascribe glory to the name of Jesus; this is a blessing to an unworthy servant!” he also wrote in a post on Instagram. “Through God’s never-ending grace and richness in mercy, I will rejoice in the Lord always!”
Carpenter understands that only Jesus can provide the joy he has found. That’s why he is on a mission to share his faith with all his fans.
