The team behind “Bluey and the Quest for the Golden Pen” shared new details about the upcoming game, including the core mechanics and when it will be released.
“What I like about the game is that it’s meant to be fun. The story I wrote feels like the simple setup you’d get from a Commodore 64 Platformer – we’ve got a problem, and we’ve got a villain, so let’s go get it,” said BLUEY creator Joe Brumm.
The upcoming game sees Bluey enter into hand drawn worlds to try and chase down her father to recover the golden pen that he took from her. Along the way, she will experience many great adventures that come from her family’s imagination.

“In the series, we’ve created a mechanic where when the kids draw, their drawings come alive and we see them animated…We’ve established that mechanic in the minds of the kids who watch BLUEY, so it’s not a big leap for the game to work on the same mechanic,” Brumm explained.
“…Dad’s taken the golden pen, and Bluey needs it for something she’s doing. And so, there’s a pursuit. There’s multiple levels and Dad’s always eluding them. Mom’s the creator of the worlds; she draws the worlds,” he continued. “And it’s really handy because the show has created the shorthand in kids’ minds, so they instantly will know, oh yeah, that they’re all drawings and I’m in the drawings, and the game can then take even more advantage of that.”
“Bluey and the Quest for the Golden Pen” is set to release on the Apple App Store for iPhone, iPod and Mac on Dec. 11. The game comes with a free trial, and the full version will be available for a one time purchase of $14.99. Meanwhile, the game is also slated to release on PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S next year. The game is recommended for players ages 7 and older.
Several video games based on the BLUEY franchise have released in the past to entertain kids in a fun and age-appropriate way. Earlier this year, a BLUEY video game released on Nex Playground as a collection of mini games relating to previous episodes of the show.
“We believe that play and by extension, gaming, has the power to bring families closer together, so partnering with Nex was a natural fit,” BBC Studios global director of gaming and interactive Marina Mello said when explaining why the brand is so involved in gaming. “Nex’s unique technology allows fans of all ages to quite literally ‘jump’ into the fun together. The mini-games are not only inspired by fan-favourite episodes, they are purpose-built for shared play and unforgettable moments.”
It will be fun for families to enjoy BLUEY in an all new way later this month when “Bluey and the Quest for the Golden Pen” releases.
