New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields hopes to go into the mission field when he’s finished with football.
“I think I want to be a missionary,” Fields declared on “The Walk” podcast. “I think I want to go to different countries, go to different places and be able to spread His word and just, you know, help people find Christ and help people just get that relationship started with Him.”
He already has some plans in the works.
“You know, I’ve actually been talking to a few friends, and I’m going to try to go somewhere, whether it’s somewhere in Africa or just somewhere where people haven’t, necessarily, you know, gotten the opportunity to build that relationship, or even get that relationship started,” the quarterback continued.

His hope to becoming a missionary stems from his heart to serve others.
“So I think that’s what I’m going to pursue. But as I said earlier, I love just helping people out,” he explained. “I love, you know, being a servant to others and being able to bless others. So, I think I’m going to, you know, get into a field of that. I’m just not sure of what exactly it’s going to be, but you know, somewhere in that field.”
He helps others right now through his Justin Fields Foundation. It’s dedicated to “strengthening communities through focused grantmaking and strategic partnerships in the areas of youth empowerment, scholastic achievement, health, wellness and leadership development.”
Last year, Fields got serious about reading his Bible, something he wished he started sooner in his life.
“I would say I just kind of got like this just the past six months,” the Jets’ starting quarterback said in August of reading the Bible. “…I’m glad I’ve grown out of that stage, and I’m glad that the only approval I need is from my teammates, my coaches and God, ultimately.”
“I’m being real — there’s some great lines and great wisdom that I didn’t even know of,” Fields reflected. “I’m low-key addicted to getting in my Bible each and every day just because I learn something new every day and I’m able to apply it in my everyday life. I was sleeping on reading the Bible earlier in my life, and I wish I would’ve started earlier. So I encourage you all to go read a little bit, starting in Proverbs then move on from there.”
Fields’ heart for service and missions is inspiring.
