Michael Iskander shared that he shows love even more to combat any evil that he faces throughout his day.

“The two greatest commandments that we were given are love your God and love your neighbor. So in the face of any evil, I would say, love more,” Iskander said.

The HOUSE OF DAVID star channels the heart of his character David through this message as David combated evil with love throughout his life. For example, after being pursued by King Saul and his army who were trying to kill him, David twice chose to spare Saul’s life when it he could’ve killed him.

While HOUSE OF DAVID has yet to get to this part of David’s life, it has faithfully portrayed the earlier seasons of David’s life, with Iskander as the lead. For this reason, Iskander was nominated for and won the Grace Award for Television at this year’s Movieguide® Awards.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about why David is being highlighted so much in today’s culture. David is a guide for us, and he shows us that no matter how far away we may stray from Christ, He is going around and looking for us, and He’s calling us by name. And all we have to do is just say yes. All we have to do is just listen to His voice and say, ‘Yes Lord. I will follow you,’” Iskander said while accepting the Grace Prize. “So, I want you to know, God doesn’t see how weak or small you may look or how grand or how strong you may look. He sees into your heart.”

HOUSE OF DAVID continues to remain faithful to the Bible and share the story of the Israelite king life with millions of viewers.

“The goal of what we do is to get people to say, ‘Is that in the Bible?’…and to draw people back to the book,” director Jon Erwin explained. “It’s like these shows, hopefully in their purest form of gigantic billboards say, ‘Go to the sword.’  I love that.”

“Even if you’re not a believer, like even if you’re just interested in history, the source material is extraordinary as well,” added Dallas Jenkins, who advised on the show.

The great work of HOUSE OF DAVID was just one of the projects highlighted at this year’s Movieguide® Awards. You can stream the Gala on PureFlix and check out a full list of this year’s winners here.
