Actor Michael Iskander says HOUSE OF DAVID’s biblical story “resonate[s]” with people all over the world, regardless of their faith.

“The story of David is pretty wild, and I think there’s a reason why it’s resonated for so many years,” he told AP News. “People have come up to me from all walks of life — not just Christians — and they talk about how much they love it.”

Iskander, who made his onscreen debut as David in the popular Amazon Prime series, shared that his “personal goal” for his performance was to “bridge that gap” between the biblical figures many of us consider “larger than life.”

He also spoke about how his own faith — Iskander recently converted to Catholicism — has impacted his work as an actor.

“My faith always comes first. That’s No. 1,” Iskander explained. “And so, I guess I look at everything through that lens. I don’t see why there should be a separation between art and faith. I’m very lucky with David. I get to worship when I go to work — that’s a blessing. I hope more people are inspired by faith in their art.”

He continued, “I think humans are very complex beings and we can’t tell our story without telling some of our downfalls. I have a line that I don’t cross, but I don’t think we should be afraid to dive into the complete nature of humanity.”

While walking the red carpet at HOUSE OF DAVID’s Season 2 premiere, Iskander spoke further about his recent conversion.

“David kind of already expedited a faith journey that I was on,” he explained. “I recently became Catholic three weeks ago, and it’s been an enormous blessing in my life.”

Iskander continued, “Just learning about David, for me, is learning what it is to be human and to make mistakes and to find God’s grace. All of us are on that journey, so that is a journey I’m continuing, and I hope David inspires people to look to Christ.”

HOUSE OF DAVID’s co-creator Jon Gunn made similar comments, telling Deseret News, “You don’t have to know the Bible or read the Bible for this to be entertaining. This is kind of the original hero’s journey story…It’s fun to watch. It’s a great, epic journey.”

The first two episodes of HOUSE OF DAVID Season 2 are available to stream on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping every Sunday through Nov. 16.
