Matthew West has a message for anyone who might be feeling like God is “done with them.”
“The very first thing that popped into my head is Jeremiah 29:11,” he said when asked how to counsel someone who’s worried they’ve lost their connection with God during an episode of the “Unlocked” podcast. “It says, ‘For I know the plans I have for you.’”
West continued, “Not had. We need to pay attention to the present — the power of the present tense in that scripture. [It] declares the Lord plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future, and just one verse later, in 29:13, it says, ‘And you will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.’”

“And so, to anybody who’s out there thinking that God is done with you, pay attention to the present tense, in that He still has plans for you,” he explained. “Even if you think you’ve screwed up every plan you’ve ever had or He’s had for you, they’re still right here. In this moment, He’s looking at you and going, ‘No, I have a plan for your life, and if you’ll seek Me with all of your heart, I’ll show you what it is.’”
West often talks about the power faith has in his own life. During a recent appearance on Allie Beth Stuckey’s “Relatable” podcast, he shared, “At the end of the day, like my relationship with the Lord is the driving, my faith is the driving force of my life. Let it guide everything that I do.”
“My mission is to tell people about Jesus with my music and stand up for what I believe is right,” West continued. “At the end of the day, I want to hear the Lord say, ‘Well done.’ But I know that it’s not going to come without criticism or opposition. And I can’t let social media — if I lose followers, so be it.”
The singer-songwriter is currently promoting his latest book, a devotional titled Don’t Stop Praying.
“As Christians, we don’t embrace the central truth of our faith that prayer actually changes the world — our conversations with God have an impact on eternity,” a synopsis of the book reads. “Author and Grammy nominated songwriter, Matthew West, invites his readers to join him in an exploration of prayer sparked by the personal realization that over the course of his lifetime he has ‘become really good at talking about Jesus instead of talking to Him.’”
West’s words are an encouragement to anyone struggling with their faith to trust in God’s plan for their lives.
