Christian artist Matthew West knows he’s “far from perfect” but says “God never stops working on me.”
“God doesn’t call us to pray a perfect prayer, but to come just as we are. And when we try to pretend we got it all together, there’s one who sees the whole story,” he said during an episode of TBN’s PRAISE.
West continued, “So, when we say, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine, everything’s fine,’ God knows when everything’s not fine, and He cares way more about what’s going on on the inside than on the outside.”

“I am far from perfect, and I know that until the day I go home to heaven, I’m a work in progress. But when I read my Bible, I’m reminded of the promise that God never stops working on me,” the singer concluded.
It’s a topic he explored in 2020 song “Truth Be Told,” which features lyrics like, “There’s no sin You don’t already know // So let the truth be told.”
“‘Truth Be Told’ has always been a very special song for me,” West wrote in on Facebook last year. “It’s about honesty and vulnerability and how hard it can be to admit when you’re not fine and don’t have it all together. It’s about the freedom you discover when it washes over you that you can stand in God’s presence unashamed knowing that His love for you will never change. It’s about the realization that the last thing a broken world needs to see is a christian pretending to be perfect. It’s about being real like Paul who readily confessed that he was the ‘chief’ of sinners because he knew it would be a testimony of how Jesus came into the world to save sinners like us.”
He continued, “So, let the truth be told. Today as we celebrate the anniversary of this song going #1, send this to someone who you think might be encouraged by this message. Let them know you’re a safe place and they’re not alone.”
West is currently promoting his latest single, “Good.”
“This song is a reminder that God’s love isn’t earned by our goodness. We’re loved simply because He is good,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “My hope is that this song meets people right where they are and reminds them that God loves them, and that His grace has the power to change everything!”
West’s music serves as an encouragement for listeners that they’re still a work in progress — and that God never gives up on us.
