Savannah Bananas outfielder Coach RAC wants to make sure his platform points others — whether that be his fans or his teammates — to Christ.
“There’s nothing special about us. I think what’s special about these events, though, is seeing God call teammates of mine to a life in Christ,” Coach RAC, whose real name is RobertAnothy Cruz, shared with THE 700 CLUB. “And what’s so unique about it is that we are touring the country playing this new sport of banana ball that didn’t even exist a few years ago, and we’re playing in these sold-out stadiums with 70, 80, 100,000 people in them.”
“And for whatever reason, there are a lot of kids out there. They look up to myself; they look up to my teammates and want to be like us in some way. And that is a tremendous honor and a tremendous responsibility,” the outfielder continued. “But with that, we want to make sure that our message is clear: that you can experience everything the world has to offer, whether that’s the fame, the fortune, being in the spotlight, but nothing compares to the greatness of knowing Christ, Jesus, our Lord. It all pales in comparison.”

“There’s no amount of fame or money or success that can fulfill your soul, and that is something that my teammates and I have experienced firsthand,” the ballplayer emphasized.
Coach Rac and his teammates hosted their first Sandlot Revival worship night at Community Bible Church in Savannah, Georgia, earlier this month. The Bananas’ team Bible study inspired the event.
“I was honestly nervous about what I should speak on, but after praying about it, I decided on Ephesians four,” Cruz said in a post on Instagram. “The main takeaway for me is this: revival is not just some emotional moment that comes and goes. It is believers moved by the Holy Spirit to grow in their maturity in Christ. We are not to remain spiritual infants, but to grow up. And revival looks like so much more than just some emotional moments. It’s about confession and repentance and restoration. It’s about love and service and a radically different way to live.”
The next Sandlot Revival worship night will be held on March 13 at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Coach RAC and his teammates hope that when people come to their games or the Sandlot Revivals, they don’t come to meet their favorite ballplayers but instead witness the faith they have in the Lord.
