Savannah Bananas player RobertAnthony Cruz (Coach RAC) prepared for the first game of the season with a spirit-led prayer over the entire stadium.

“‘Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?’ I believe Corrie Ten Boom once said that,” Coach RAC began a recent Instagram video.

“Before I pray, I will say I’ve done this in the past, and people have said, Why are you praying for a camera? You should be praying behind closed doors,” he continued, “and I think you’re absolutely right. I could not agree more. God loves a humble and sincere spirit. And if there’s one thing I know about myself, my intentions are never perfectly pure, but I hope that my prayer to you publicly is a greater expression of the prayers that I have in my heart.”

Cruz then prayed for all those who would be attending the first game of the Bananas’ season: “God. Tomorrow is our first game of the year. We’re going to be playing in front of 67,000 people. Right where I’m sitting, there will be someone who is an image bearer of you, someone who you love dearly. This person is either experienced or will experience heartbreak, struggle and even pain.”

“But God, I pray that you would use the event tomorrow to magnify your name, that beyond the baseball, the dances and the performances, that you would empower your people to share the gospel and the love of Christ with each other,” the Bananaball player continued. “This stadium would be a place of love, where this stadium would be full with people who desire to know you and use prayer in a relationship with you. Jesus is the steering wheel of their life, and not just the spare tire.”

“Thank you for the work you’ve done in my life. Thank you for the work you’ve done in my teammates’ lives. I pray that you’d use this unique platform that you have given me as a player on the Savannah Bananas to reach many people with the name of Jesus. God, may the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be honorable in your sight. Oh Lord, my rock and my redeemer, in Jesus’ name, Amen,” Coach RAC concluded, quoting from Psalm 19.

The Savannah Bananas started their season in front of a sold-out crowd over the weekend at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. The Bananas played the Texas Tailgaters. The Tailgaters secured “three home runs and dances that made the crowd go crazy.” However, the Bananas “pushed it to the limit with performances and ended the night with fireworks and a win.”

We love seeing athletes use their platforms to point fans back to God!
