Actress Jen Lilley recently shared a moment when she struggled with God’s timing — and the lesson she learned about surrender.

“I fasted three days, every week for six months,” she said during an episode of the “That Sounds Fun” podcast. “I was going through something, and the Lord would only say, ‘Wait.’ That’s all He told me.”

Lilley continued, “I remember one day, I got really frustrated — which is not really normally my posture — but I just remember saying like, ‘I am waiting, Lord. I am waiting, and I’ve waited, and I have waited, and I have waited, and I can pick up the phone and in my own human strength, I can solve this…and all you’re telling me is, “Wait.” When are you moving?’”

“And I heard the Lord say, ‘Jen, here’s the thing. You’re in My flow. You’re in My river, and there is a current, and you don’t feel it because you’re moving with Me,’” she said. “‘You have to stop swimming. You’re either swimming ahead of Me, or you’re swimming behind Me. What I need you to do is float. I’m taking you somewhere. Yield.’”

The Hallmark star often discusses her faith, telling Crosswalk in a 2025 interview, “I’ve always been pretty bold. My nickname in elementary school and high school was Jen for Jesus.”

Lilley recently published a devotional, Wake Up Your Faith, which she told the outlet she hopes will inspire others.

“Doing faith in action is just a byproduct of loving the Lord,” Lilley said. “If you really love the Lord, then you are His hands and feet. You are a righteous tree. You are going to produce the fruit of the Spirit, because it’s a natural byproduct of being a righteous tree.”

She continued, “God doesn’t want you to just be a person in the crowd hearing His sermon. He actually wants us to be a disciple. And you can’t actually walk closely with Jesus if you’re not willing to die to yourself daily and let Him take over.”

Lilley also has another exciting project on the way — a new Hallmark movie, titled A ROYAL SETTING. She plays Ruby, a gemologist who is hired to restore the crown jewels of the kingdom of Gullion. There, she meets Prince Luca (Dan Jeannotte), and sparks fly.

Lilley and Jeannotte previously worked together on PARIS, WINE & ROMANCE for the network.

“Working with Dan again was such a joy,” Lilley said in a statement. “Having history together makes the on-screen chemistry feel effortless — it’s already there, and you just get to play. We laughed a lot, worked hard, and I genuinely couldn’t ask for a better scene partner. I can’t wait for fans to see what we created — it feels really special!”

A ROYAL SETTING premieres on Hallmark on March 28.
