Bear Grylls recently shared about God’s grace for his past in a moment of reflection on social media.
“My faith has taught me that grace covers the gap between who we are and who we’re trying to become,” Grylls shared Wednesday alongside an old photo of himself when he was young. “We’re all a work in progress. Just keep moving forward.”

Last year, Grylls introduced his book, The Greatest Story Ever Told, a lively retelling of Jesus story.

The survivalist has climbed Everest, swam underneath ice and many more incredible feats that have earned him a worldwide reputation. But he said “sharing the story of Jesus is the proudest thing I’ve ever done.”
“[M]y Christian faith has strengthened me in so many battles I’ve faced in life,” Grylls said. “In years gone by, I have ignored my faith and tried to do life without it. I have tried to be strong only in myself.”
But in those times, he never felt peace until he let Christ into his heart again.
“I have discovered that we lose our power when we try to live on our own strength alone. I really need His helping hand, His peace within and that quiet assurance,” he said.
“The story I have written in my new book is His story, Jesus’ own story, told from the perspective of the first eyewitnesses,” he said. “I deliberately stuck closely to the accounts recorded in the four gospels, though some dialogue and other details have been added for context and flow. But not a single word of Jesus has been changed from the original accounts in the New Testament.”
Grylls woke up one morning with the idea for the book and knew without out a doubt he would write it.
“I got straight on the phone to the publishers and said: ‘It’s going to be the biggest-selling book in history.’ They laughed. I said: ‘It will! After the Bible and the Qur’an, it’s going to the biggest,’” he recalled.
He wrote on social media last year, “My dream is that every person on the planet gets introduced to this true, life-changing story of love, courage, sacrifice and rescue…I’m going out on a limb here (and risking looking a fool!) but I believe that after the Bible and Quran, this book can become the furthest reaching book in history! (Est. each at 5 billion and 800 million.)”
He pointed out that After the Bible and Quran, the most read books are The Little Prince, Harry Potter and Tale of Two Cities.
“What would it take to make The Greatest Story Ever Told hit those numbers!?” he asked. “…We have a long way to go together but remember, it wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark! Win or lose, it’s genuinely been a life goal and life mission to write this book.”
