Pro surfer and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton wants to know, “What grounds you in the chaos??”
For the mom of four, it’s her faith in Christ.
“Not only has my faith kept me grounded, but surfing has certainly kept me grounded over the years!” the professional surfer said in a post on Instagram. “Kept me grounded with reality, also the beauty and joy of life!!! Pursuing my next fun wave is just pure joy for me!! We need creative and physical outlets!”
“I got so many responses to the story post about the aggressive DMs I get about not chiming in on every world/country news chaos. I don’t think I’m meant to carry the burdens of everyday news…” she continued. “And better yet… Jesus can hold us and the many worries we may have!”

Hamilton often uses her social media platform to share encouraging messages with her followers. One message spoke about what to do when you feel alone.
“Remember if you feel alone, God created all of this and is watching over you,” she wrote over a beautiful video of a sunset over the mountains and ocean.
“Faith is believing in the unseen buttt…The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork,” Hamilton added in the caption, quoting Psalm 19:1.
In another post, Hamilton addressed the topic of “struggling in your faith.”
“I feel you…Life is full of so many ups and downs…It’s hard to be steady, faithful and consistent…The world is so loud and chaotic. Yet there is hope…,” she wrote in a video.
“While we may fall short…God is faithful. God is steady. God is consistent,” Hamilton continued in the caption. “Faith is not about our perfection, our faithfulness or our work…But it’s about the goodness of God and his steadfast love.
“This is so often forgotten in the Christian church. And I think we need this reminder every single day. For God has not given us a spirit of fear. His load is light. His love is pure. There is hope for you no matter who you are, what you’ve been through, or the mistakes you’ve made along the way,” she encouraged.
Though Hamilton’s life has been marked by adversity, from being bitten by a shark and losing her arm to relearning how to surf and live with just one arm, the pro athlete leans on her faith in Christ in every situation.
