Kathie Lee Gifford believes that God made her famous so she can be a light to others.

“A lot of people say to me, ‘I don’t want to be famous.’ I say, ‘Well, I didn’t either,'” the 72-year-old TV personality told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. “I didn’t want to be famous, but God made me famous because I think He knew that I would be faithful to Him, faithful to tell the truth about Him, to be bold in my faith in Jesus.”

Gifford felt unqualified in many areas, but God still used her.

“I was never the most beautiful girl. I was never the most popular person trying out for something. I was never the best actress, the best everything. I was never any of that. But God knew I would be faithful; I would be bold in sharing my faith,” she explained.

Gifford continued, “People go, ‘You’re so bold. Why are you bold?’ I say, ‘Because I have to be. Look at what God did for me. Jesus died for me so I could live. And that’s enough for me.'”

Ultimately, the only part of her Hollywood career that matters is getting the “opportunity to share Jesus.”

“If I ever had an opportunity to share Jesus with people, share the truth about Him, I would,” Gifford said. “Why wouldn’t I be bold about my faith? I never understood why people wouldn’t. But I never cared what people thought. I never did. I still don’t. I don’t care.”

Gifford truly lives out 2 Timothy 4:2, which says, “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction.”

She said, “Of course, I wanted people to like me. But I also wanted the Lord to be honored in anything I did. I wanted the Lord to be proud of me. I wanted the Lord to say, ‘Well done.’ That’s all that truly mattered to me.”

Gifford continues to use the platform she’s been given to glorify God through books and other exciting projects.

“I’ve just finished my 37th book. They’re making a documentary on me, and of course, so much of it is about scandals and crap I went through,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m like, can we at least talk about all the work I’ve done?!”

Her latest book, Nero and Paul: How the Gospel of Grace Defeated the Ruler of Rome, released earlier this week.

“This book is a statement that eternal truth will always conquer evil, a message as relevant in our time as it was in theirs,” Gifford said on Instagram. “My prayer is that as you read, you will be inspired to consider your own place in God’s great story. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me.”

Though her career in the spotlight doesn’t look like it’ll end anytime soon, Gifford continues to put God first and share His love with others.
