A recent opportunity to share some details about their working life made FIXER TO FABULOUS’ Jenny Marrs reflect on how she and husband Dave’s journey with HGTV began.

“Over the weekend, we had the opportunity to share some of our story, including how we ended up with cameras following along as we work,” she wrote in an Instagram caption. “The work began two decades before the cameras. And, the cameras were never something we sought out. Yet, now, after 8 years, we can look back and see God’s hand in it all. The conversation made me want to share this excerpt from my book, Trust God Love People, about the start of this ride.”

Marrs recalled watching a “sizzle reel” of clips that would be pitched to HGTV, thinking, “This is absolutely crazy. Why would anyone want to watch a television show about our life?”

She also shared her concerns about having the couple’s children appear on FIXER TO FABULOUS, saying, “They were babies. Was it wise to open our family up to the inevitable criticism and loss of privacy that must come with a television show?”

“I prayed simply, ‘Lord, if this is what you want for us to do, if this will bring you glory, if we can use this opportunity to shine a light into this dark world, then let it happen. If this isn’t in your plans for us, if this is against your will, then slam the door shut.’”

FIXER TO FABULOUS’ first episode did well and was picked up for a full season.

Marrs shared an excerpt of a journal entry she wrote from that time: “I feel like we are stepping onto a battlefield spiritually by saying yes to this show…Lord – help us to not be overwhelmed by fear of what may come or the pressure to please man. Prevent pride from gaining a foothold. Keep humility in our hearts. Help us to look to you for our worth, not the words or affirmation or judgment or criticism of others.”

“If you’re also facing an unknown today, I hope our story can encourage you to step out in faith and trust that God will use your obedience for your good and His glory,” Marrs concluded.

Marrs recently reflected on the finale of FIXER TO FABULOUS’ seventh season, writing on Instagram that they filmed the season while walking “through the unexpected and shocking loss” of several loved ones.

“Yet, we still laughed. We still worked. We still showed up,” she continued. “And, I’m so very proud of every single episode. I’m proud of the incredible team of people around us. The team that quite literally carried us this year- we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of them.”

HGTV hasn’t officially ordered an eighth season of the show, but Marrs told TV Insider, “I think we will keep doing this as long as we can. As long as people enjoy the show and as long as we get to be a part of making people’s homes beautiful and telling people’s stories. It’s really a pretty cool job that we get to have. We’ll just keep doing it as long as we’re relevant.”

No matter what happens, the Marrs family is certain to keep faith at the forefront of all they do.
