Alexia Jayy just won season 29 of THE VOICE, a victory she couldn’t be more grateful for.
“For me, it was between Kelly [Clarkson] and Adam [Levine],” she told Gold Derby of who she chose as her coach.
“Those were my two choices from the beginning,” she said. “And Adam, he got up there and he said something that kind of changed my perspective. He was like, ‘Let’s do something different.’ And that got me. And then my son, he loves Maroon 5, so that was the only choice. That was the only right choice.”
“There is no one that is more deserving of this honor,” Levine said after Jayy was announced winner.

Because the season was filmed before it aired, Jayy had to keep her win a secret for months, even from her close family.
“It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. It was very hard for my mom too. I had to fuss at her so many times, but thank God she did what she had to do,” she said, adding, “It was definitely really hard to hold that news in because it’s so exciting.”
Jayy also credits her mom for her love of music. “My mom had me listening to all the greats when I was younger, and what she told me was to always listen to the song and ask yourself, what do you want to do in that song?” she said. “Those people already made those songs legendary, so it was nerve-wracking to sing them. But I just told myself, I’m going to get out there and do my best. I had so much fun, and I’m glad everybody loved it.”
Jayy is proud of herself, not just for her perseverance in music, but for who she is as a mother. She’s mom to son Matthew and daughter Harmony.
“I hope me being grounded never changes. I love who I am right now. I love the mom that I am. I love the person that I am, so I just hope that I get to stay the same,” she emphasized.
Ahead of her win, she thanked God for giving her the endurance and opportunity to follow her dreams,
“I know for a fact I wouldn’t be here without God guiding every step, opening doors I couldn’t open myself, and carrying me on the days I felt tired,” she posted on Instagram. “This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it, and I don’t take a single moment of it for granted.”
Congratulations to Jayy!
