A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS Documents the 100-Year History of Hollywood Cross
By Movieguide® Contributor
A new short documentary will relay the “tumultuous and triumphant” 100-year history of The Hollywood Cross and Hollywood’s early Christian roots “from which the cross emerged.”
Per a press release, “Peacefully perched above Hollywood for the past 100 years, The Hollywood Cross has experienced a roller coaster ride of controversy summed up in the film’s final lines of narration: ‘Despite being attacked by vandals and Nazis, destroyed by fire and windstorms, and assaulted by lawyers, judges and politicians, The Hollywood Cross still stands high over Hollywood after 100 years. A light in the darkness — showing the way so all may see, draw inspiration and believe.’”
A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS: THE HOLLYWOOD CROSS TURNS 100 features “amazing images from Hollywood’s beginning in 1886 to the present” and includes interviews with Jim Korkunis, who built the cross, and Hollywood stuntman Bob Yerkes (BACK TO THE FUTURE, RETURN OF THE JEDI), who set it in its place in 1993.
From Shining City Media, the documentary was produced by Geoffrey W. Black (SCHINDLER’S LIST, JURASSIC PARK) and his wife Ramya Kuruppu Black (THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, Disney’s HERCULES). The Billy Graham Evangelical Association partnered with the project, and the film includes clips of Rev. Billy Graham.
A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS will screen in select churches around the country and release on YouTube and Rumble on March 24, 2024.
