JESUS FREAKS, a 2024 movie with Kevin Sorbo and his wife, Sam, explores the 1970s Christian revival on the east coast.
It tells the story of how a college student, Nina, and her boyfriend, Colby, experienced God on their campus as the Holy Spirit spread.
The movie is written and directed by Nina May and is based on her story and book of the same name.
May’s story isn’t without antagonists. She recalled when her pastor didn’t believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and criticized her.
“That’s when the pastor exploded and told me, ‘Hit the road.’ But what happened after that spiritually was so profound on so many levels,” she told CBN. “But I really felt that the Lord wanted people to see it because of the Bible verses, I’ve been crucified with Christ; nevertheless, I live, but it’s Christ, not me, that lives in me.”
She wants viewers to be excited about the movie and attracted to it.
“People are missing out on this intimacy. And that’s my prayer that people desire it and hunger for it and fall in love with Jesus all over again,” she said.
“Almost every single person that went through that will say, ‘Oh my gosh, I remember this. This was such a pivotal point in my spiritual life, in my walk with Jesus,’” she said.
She says people are amazed by what they see in the movie and others ask how to have a spiritual relationship with God after seeing it.

They ask, “’How do I get what you got? I want it to be about a relationship with God.’ Like you say in the movie, not about religion. How do I do that? So, it’s been solid. Everyone is touched by it,” May said.
May says God opened doors for the movie to happen.
“Many churches opened their doors to the production and blessed us in so many ways…For two short but busy weeks they setup sets, filmed and fell in love with Central Virginia,” the JESUS FREAKS website says. “The exceptional cast, crew and extras, mostly all from the area pulled together to make it happen.”
“The film has already been life-changing for many who have watched and given their lives to the Lord, or have received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, after understanding what that means and how it happens. Jesus left His Holy Spirit with us as a comforter, teacher, counselor, and advocate,” May told Townhall last month. “… Accepting Christ is only the beginning of a relationship with Jesus.”
Those interested in watching JESUS FREAKS can currently request a screening at their local church.
