Despite a mediocre start to the season, the Carolina Panthers recently took down the top team in the entire NFL in their victory against the Arizona Cardinals with the help of recently signed Cam Newton.
The New England Patriots released Cam Newton in August after three pre-season games. However, Newton helped the Panthers hand the Cardinals their second loss all season. Newton called the victory a “full circle moment.”
“I just want to take this opportunity — man, wow — whoever’s watching this, God is real. That’s fact,” he told Fox Sports in an interview after the game. “I’m just a vessel of Him and He’s working in my life. I was teasing some people about it, about what’s going on. You can’t even make up a lie this good. I’m just happy to be back. I’m just happy to be a contributor to a team that’s already good; we’re just trying to get over the hump.
“This time last week I was eating a bowl of cereal,” he added. “So that just puts things into perspective.”
Despite not playing on an NFL team for most of the season, Newton said he used his time off the field to deepen his relationship with God and his family.
“After going to church, being with my children, and not even watching football…it was about maximizing the person I need to be,” Newton said. “God is working in my life right now and I ain’t hiding away from it.”
The veteran quarterback said that despite the big win, he does not want the credit.
“I can’t even take the credit. I don’t want to take the credit. I refuse to take the credit. This is all God’s work,” he said.
