Christian Artist Ryan Ellis is ‘Singing to God’

Christian singer-songwriter Ryan Ellis is sharing his faith journey and how God called him to music.

“I had a single mom, a younger brother, and I knew nobody was coming to save me. It was just me,” he said in a video for YouVersion. “I just started being a street kid. I had no identity…there was no purpose. It felt really empty. I felt like I was just a shell of a man, and I remember just feeling, like, ‘Where’s the joy?’”

After Ellis joined the Navy, his mother started sending him “text messages from [a] Bible app.”

“I was like, ‘You know, maybe this is what I need…it’s making me feel like it’s answering a lot of questions, and it’s making me feel like I’m becoming a better person,’” he explained. “It made all the sense in the world to me after I got saved.”

After he found faith, Ellis soon felt called to start “singing to God.”

“It just sort of ignited something in me. It just felt like — if there’s a reason to sing, then this is the reason,” he said.

Ellis shared that his “main mission” for his music is for “people to get encountered by the Holy Spirit.”

“I wanted people to encounter God through worship and through music and for them to start having this conversation, and so creating this atmosphere with music really gave people the freedom to do that,” he concluded.

Ellis recently released a studio version of a demo for “Better Days,” a track that went viral after he posted it online.

“The way that so many of you connect with this song says a lot. It says that there’s so many of us navigating a challenging season,” he said via the Christian Beat. “We’re clinging to hope that there are better days ahead. We can simultaneously be in a hard season while also acknowledging God’s goodness and faithfulness. We can even catch glimpses of ‘better days’ here and there. But what truly stands out is that this means we’re not alone. You’re not alone. We’re all in this together waiting for God to do something. I guess we’re all just waiting for some better days.”

Ellis has over a million monthly listeners on Spotify, but instead of concentrating on statistics, the singer is focused on gratitude.

“Numbers are cool, but not everything,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “Just over here thankful for this life, for God, for my family, for you guys. What a gift it all is.”
