‘Thank God For Everything He’s Given You:’ Sinbad Celebrates Continued Recovery From Stroke

Comedian Sinbad is learning to walk again two years after suffering an ischemic stroke.

His family recently shared a photo of the comedian from one of his physical therapy sessions, along with a statement about his recovery.

The caption read:

Sinbad appreciates all the love and support you have shown him over the last two years. Many of you have asked for updates and if there is anything Sinbad needs or what you can do to help. As a result, the family has created a site where you can keep up to date with his progress and also provide an avenue for those who wish to give. Follow the link in bio.

“Stay funky, stay blessed.”

In 2020, Sinbad had a stroke after a blood clot traveled from his heart to his brain. He underwent a thrombectomy, and his prognosis was looking good.

The next day, another clot formed. Sinbad had another thrombectomy, but it “took a little more from him than the first surgery.”

His brain then started to swell, which led doctors to perform a craniotomy. After the procedure took place, doctors placed him in a medically-induced coma.

After weeks in the coma, Sinbad woke up, and began physical, occupational and speech therapy.

“It was there Sinbad started to make considerable progress toward recovery,” a statement from the family stated

“He continues to receive therapy, fighting for every inch,” the statement went on. “His progress is nothing short of remarkable,” the family shares. “Limbs that were said to be ‘dead’ are coming alive, and he’s taking the steps necessary to learn to walk again. In his own words, ‘I am not done. I will not stop fighting until I can walk across the stage again.’ And neither will we.”

The family then thanked Sinbad’s fans for praying for his recovery.

“The family believes, without exception, Sinbad is here because of the multitude of prayers from all who know and love him,” they shared. “We are eternally grateful. Every outpouring of love and the memories of how he has touched all of you have not gone unheard, unseen or unfelt. Thank you. You have lifted his spirits along the way and inspired the entire family,” they conclude.”

The statement then shared some of the comedian’s own words of gratitude for his continued recovery.

“Thank God for everything He’s given you, even if it’s not everything you asked for,” he said. “Thank God for family and hug the ones you love while you’re still with them. We need each other to get through this journey. I can’t wait to see you all again soon. As always, stay funky, stay prayed up.”
