More Detail:
GREEN AND GOLD tells the moving story of a family struggling to hang on to their family farm. A bet with the banker holding their loan that the Green Bay Packers will win the Super Bowl gives them hope for a miracle, but will the team make it to the championship?
Buck and his granddaughter, Jenny, are often at odds. The two work together on their family’s dairy farm, doing things the old fashioned way, as Buck prefers, but Jenny longs for something more. She dreams of a music career, sharing the passion of her late mother.
Farming is a tough business, and the bank announces their plans to foreclose on the farm. The banker, knowing about Buck’s ardent love for the Green Bay Packers, jokingly makes a bet with him. If the Packers win the Super Bowl, they’ll get another year to pay off their loan.
As Buck struggles to figure out how to save the farm, Jenny strikes up a friendship with Billy Reed. Billy is a musician staying in their town to connect with nature and work on his next album. Jenny shares a tape of her songs with him, and Billy is impressed by her talent.
The family anxiously watches the Packers games every Sunday as they do what they can to keep things afloat; Buck starts selling off farm equipment, while Jenny performs gigs in the city, sneaking her earnings into Buck’s office.
Tragedy strikes when, in a freak accident, Buck’s wife and Jenny’s grandmother falls off a ladder and slips into a coma. Jenny and Buck start fighting again, as he finds out about a meeting she has with Billy Reed and his management team. Jenny goes to the meeting and is dismayed to find that Billy had no intention of helping her launch her own musical career. Instead, he has recorded her songs and wants to use them on his next album. Jenny refuses, as her songs are “too precious” to her to give them away.
Things get worse when the Packers lose a game, knocking them out of the running for the Super Bowl and losing the bet for Buck. Jenny takes solace in the memories they have of the farm and sings a song she wrote about their home on the local radio station. Will Buck and his family get the miracle they need?
