AMERICAN PIE 2

What You Need To Know:

AMERICAN PIE 2 takes up the lives of the five high school boys in the first movie one year later, just after their first year of college. Jim, the main protagonist, is still feeling very awkward about his sexual prowess, but the girl of his fantasies, Nadia, will soon be returning, ready for romance. Jim decides to get pointers from the girl to whom he lost his virginity in the last movie, Michelle. She’s an assertive but slightly nerdy redhead who’s a camp counselor near the beach house that Jim and his buddies are renting. Jim’s friends have their own problems. Comic actor Eugene Levy repeats his role as Jim’s father, the world’s most permissive and “understanding” dad.

As in the first movie, the filmmakers of AMERICAN PIE 2 have added a layer of romantic comedy and goofiness to mitigate the raunchy sexual fantasies and misadventures. Of course, the immoral values this movie promulgates are completely reprehensible. The movie also totally ignores the success of the abstinence movement, not to mention the danger of sexually transmitted diseases. A federal report released in July showed that abstinence remains the only effective defense against these rampant sexual diseases

More Detail:

In the summer of 1999, an R-rated high school sex farce called AMERICAN PIE made headlines at the box office. Since then, however, MOVIEGUIDE®, with the help of the seventh largest television network in America, Pax TV, our supporters and other concerned citizens have helped make it more difficult for theater owners to let young people into such movies without being accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. That hasn’t stopped the seven major studios in Hollywood who own the Motion Picture Association of America, the company that hands out these phony ratings, from releasing an R-rated sequel to AMERICAN PIE.

AMERICAN PIE 2 takes up the lives of the five high school boys in the first movie one year later, after they have just completed their first year of college. Jim, the main protagonist, is still feeling very awkward about his sexual prowess, but the girl of his fantasies, Czech exchange student Nadia, will soon be returning from a trip, ready for romance. Jim decides to get pointers from the girl to whom he lost his virginity in the last movie, Michelle. She’s an assertive, but slightly nerdy redhead who’s a band camp counselor near the summer beach house that Jim and his buddies are renting.

Jim’s friends, meanwhile, are having their own problems. Ozzie is pining for his girlfriend, Heather, to return from Europe. Kevin is trying to see if he can still remain friends with his former girlfriend, Vicki. Bad boy Stifler is angry at Finch, who’s still reeling from his “romantic” rendezvous with Stifler’s divorced mother. Finally, comic actor Eugene Levy repeats his role as Jim’s father, the world’s most permissive and “understanding” dad.

As in the first movie, the filmmakers of AMERICAN PIE 2 have added a layer of cute romantic comedy and lovable goofiness to mitigate all these raunchy sexual fantasies and misadventures. Of course, the immoral values this movie promulgates are completely reprehensible. The movie also totally ignores the power of the abstinence movement that has helped reduce teen pregnancy rates, not to mention the danger of sexually transmitted diseases. In fact, a new report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in July showed that the use of condoms, or “safe sex,” does not prevent the transmission of most sexually transmitted diseases, including HPV, which can cause cervical, prostate and anal cancer. Thus, abstinence remains the best defense. Not that AMERICAN PIE 2 is interested in giving a lecture about “safe sex,” of course. Far from it.

Despite the restrictions of its R rating, the likeability of the actors and general goofiness of AMERICAN PIE 2 will surely attract masses of teenagers and young adults. Instead of catering to their animalistic desires with movies like this, Hollywood should be appealing to their better natures. That’s why Disney’s THE PRINCESS DIARIES remains the perfect anecdote this summer to Hollywood’s perverted interest in teen sex.
