More Detail:

After the disastrous outcome of a 1988 Olympic qualifying trial he was destined to win, Jamaican sprinter Derrice Bannock decides his only chance to follow in his father’s footsteps to the Olympic games is as a member of the yet-to-be-formed Jamaican bobsled team in the new Disney adventure comedy COOL RUNNINGS. He and four unlikely partners team up to make history as the first bobsled team from a small island country too tropical for snow or ice. They must learn to pull together as a team to have any chance of success in the bobsled competition and bring honor to their country and to themselves.

COOL RUNNINGS is a very enjoyable film, with good acting performances by Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, Malik Yoba, and John Candy. The film is a bit predictable, as most people are familiar with the story, but it is still quite enjoyable. After a summer of offensive releases such as HOCUS POCUS and MY BOYFRIEND’S BACK, Disney returns to a successful formula with COOL RUNNINGS, a very positive family-friendly film which promotes friendship, acceptance, integrity, and teamwork, as well as the importance of the support of family. The film also teaches an excellent lesson on competition and the relative importance of winning. A small amount of relatively mild foul language mars this otherwise very enjoyable film. COOL RUNNINGS is good fun and should be a hit.
