More Detail:
Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire has it all, a prestigious job at Sports Management International, a gorgeous fiancee and a large roster of clients. One night, he writes a mission statement for his company suggesting a change in policy. He makes a copy for everybody in the company and gets fired. His boss, Bob Sugar, steals all of his clients but one, Rod Tidwell, a great but small wide-receiver. Jerry makes an exit from SMI and is joined only by single-mother, Dorothy Boyd. Jerry eventually looses his fiancee and marries Dorothy, but money is tight and the marriage is rocky. When Rod gets hit hard on the playing field, this set-back yields wonderful results both in Jerry’s career, Rod’s career and in Jerry’s marriage.
This movie tries very earnestly to be likable, and most of the time it succeeds. All this sap might be unbearable if it didn’t provide fascinating information about the sports world, and if it didn’t show a tender and passionate quest of a man who wants to do right. Jerry wants to get away from impersonal relationships and shady deals to intimacy, commitment and honesty. He looses everything including his fiancee and job, but finds a new, better wife and a smaller, but better business. This movie contains many obscenities, some sexual situations and nudity.
