THE CENTER OF THE WORLD

"Stripper Exploits Rich Computer Nerd"

What You Need To Know:

In THE CENTER OF THE WORLD, a rich computer nerd, Richard, becomes attracted to a stripper named Florence. He offers her $10,000 to spend the weekend with him in Las Vegas. She accepts, but with conditions (no kissing and no actual fornication). Addicted to violent video games and Internet pornography, Richard agrees to her terms. Things go well at first, but, then, their emotions get in the way of their business relationship. Florence’s lack of feelings begins to cause angry reactions from accommodating, meek Richard.

THE CENTER OF THE WORLD obviously has something to say about male/female relationships. For example, it shows how men are attracted by the visual and how women exploit that weakness so that they can get the power, money and security they want. Director Wayne Wang apparently wants to convey how this situation degrades both men and women. The same points, however, could be made without resorting to the kind of sexual pornography that occurs in this movie, not to mention the strong foul language, graphic nudity, bad writing, mediocre acting, and extremely low-budget shooting style. The movie’s cryptic, inane ending doesn’t help matters much, either

Content:

(PaPaPa, HoHo, LLL, VV, SSS, NNN, A, D, MM) Strong pagan worldview with homosexual content in one scene & implied homosexual orientation in major character; 38 obscenities, 2 profanities & discussion about sex; sexual violence; depicted fornication, masturbation, sodomy, & lesbian caresses; brief full nudity & partial sexual nudity; alcohol use; smoking; and, prostitution, use of violent video games & voyeurism.
