"Boys Bad: Ants Good"
What You Need To Know:
Simply, THE ANT BULLY is very preachy. It mocks God. It extols Communism. It also mocks human beings. As such, it also is one of the most politically correct movies of the year, with very strong environmentalist content. It also lacks any joy or fun. There are a few exciting moments, but they are too few and far between.
(HHH, CoCoCo, EEE, PCPCPC, AbAb, BB, O, LL, VV, S, N, M) Very strong humanist worldview with very strong Communist, environmentalist, politically correct elements and very foolish comments about space aliens that portray people as bad, parents as clueless, grandmother as close-to-an idiot, sister as foolish, while commending behavioral education, stressing that animals are better and more reasonable than human beings, mocking God and the devil, and talking about a female ant god as well as stressing the positive virtues of loyalty, teamwork, friendship, kindness, compassion, and caring about others, plus occult wizardry including magic and incantations; 10 obscenities and abhorrent praise of fictitious ant god; lots of action violence such as boy reduced to ant size, boy falls down anthill, boy attacked by wasps, boy attacked by ants, boy swallowed by frog, boy in stomach acid of frog, the head of smiling character is pulled out of the acid with its outside dangling, exterminator attacks bugs, exterminator bitten in private parts by bugs, exterminator attacked by wasps, ants hurt and wounded, grandmother keeps losing her teeth; very light sexual discussion; naked boy; no drinking; no smoking; no smoking; and, individualism rebuked, lying condoned, and careless attitude of father.
If ANT BULLY wasn’t so dull and lackluster, it would be dangerous. It is heavy-handed humanist, environmentalist, Communist propaganda with a few positive messages inserted.
In the story, a 10-year-old boy named Lucas has just moved to a new city. The bigger boys keep beating him up. He takes out his frustration by stomping on ant hills and flooding them with a garden hose.
One weekend his parents go away for their anniversary. Lucas is left in the care of his grandmother and sister. His grandmother is losing her teeth and, for all practical purposes, has lost her marbles. She believes that space aliens are about to attack her.
The ants appeal to their wizard, Zog, to do something about the ant bully, Lucas. Zog creates a magic potion that turns Lucas ant size. Lucas is brought before the Queen and told that he must learn to live as an ant. He has to suppress his individualism and learn to live in a commune. In the process of this behavioral re-education, Lucas learns that ants are good and people are bad.
Lucas also has to battle wasps. He gets eaten by a frog, a disgusting scene, and he has to join with the ants to destroy the exterminator. In other words, Lucas has to learn how to be a Communist.
Simply, THE ANT BULLY is very preachy. It mocks God. It extols Communism. It also mocks human beings. As such, it also is one of the most politically correct movies of the year. It also lacks any joy or fun. There are a few exciting moments, but they are too few and far between.
In previous animated movies about bugs, ANTZ and A BUG’S LIFE, the message was that the individual and the group are equally important. As such, they solved the political problem of Society versus the Individual in a way reflecting Christian values. They also pointed the way to a solution to the philosophical problem of the Many and the One, or the variety in the universe created by God compared to the unity of God’s creation. By the way, God’s revelation in Holy Scripture that He is a Holy Trinity, or Triune, also solves these vexing intellectual problems or logical contradictions for us.
ANT BULLY shows that a lot of big stars, creative people and good animation cannot save a mediocre, politically correct anti-human environmentalist screed that violates God’s revelation.
