WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS

What You Need To Know:

In WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS, Cole Carter lives to be a deejay and make it big. Cole lives with his best friends, Mason. Mason, and friends Ollie and Squirrel, are promoters at a club where Cole deejays on Thursdays. One night, Cole meets James, a successful deejay who takes Cole under his wing. At James’ house, Cole sees Sophie, a girl he had met at the club, but Sophie turns out to be James’ girlfriend, not just his assistant. Cole’s growing infatuation with Sophie may endanger his relationship with James, especially after Cole sees James with another woman.

WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS is a mediocre movie, with some awkward pacing. Clearly the music is the best part and the editing is the best while the music is playing. WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS also has a strong pagan worldview. Though Cole changes his ways, the characters party, do drugs, fornicate, and do other harmful things, with little sign of any negative consequences. WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS has lots of foul language, drug and alcohol abuse, and other immoral content that make it unacceptable.

Content:

(PaPa, B, C, LLL, VV, SS, NN, AA, MM) Strong pagan worldview where characters indulge in sex, drugs and cheating people, mixed with a Jewish funeral, a crucifix is shown, main character says he does not feel like a good person and wishes he was a good person and makes a gesture to give back what he’s stolen, but another character continues to cheat and steal from people; 99 obscenities (mostly “f” words) and four strong profanities, vomiting; strong violence includes characters get in a fight, punching, man hits and beats up younger man; strong sexual content overall includes young girl lives with man out of wedlock, and the couple is unfaithful to each other, implied sex out of wedlock, men visit strip club, kissing; upper female nudity, upper male nudity, men at a strip club, and side of upper female nudity seen; alcoholism, drinking, drunkenness; no smoking, but characters take Ecstasy, character trips out on PCP and sees paintings coming alive, characters smoke marijuana, characters sell drugs like Ecstasy at a festival, one character mentions they could go to jail but when they get through security they celebrate that they did not get found out, and one character dies from drug overdose/complications; and, strong miscellaneous immorality such as characters cheat and steal helpless people out of their houses, but main character gives back, and bad role models lead younger characters astray.

More Detail:

In WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS, Cole Carter lives to be a deejay and make it in the big time. WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS is a mediocre movie with a strong, slightly mixed, pagan worldview and lots of foul language, drug and alcohol abuse, and other immoral content.

As the movie opens, Cole has lived with one of his best friends, Mason, in the San Fernando Valley, for much of his life. Mason, and friends Ollie and Squirrel, are promoters at a club called “Social,” where Cole deejays on Thursdays. Most days, Cole spends his time composing tracks to play at the club.

One night at the club, Cole meets a famous DJ who has played after him named James Reed. James invites Cole to another party. The two bond, and James decides to take Cole under his wing, as a young aspiring DJ. When Cole is at James’ house, he sees Sophie, a girl he had met at the club. Sophie turns out to be James’ assistant and girlfriend, which saddens Cole, who instantly was attracted to her.

James sees that Cole has potential in being a DJ and invites him to open for him at a huge festival. This is a moment that could really make Cole and launch his career. From this moment, James lets Cole create a track in his studio and mentors him to be better. At the same time, however, Cole’s interest in Sophie is really growing, especially when he sees James with another woman.

When Cole meets Sophie at a huge Electronic Dance Music festival (probably EDC), the two run through the streets of Las Vegas. When Cole does this, his friends think he has forgotten them and may lose his opportunity to open for James.

WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS has a strong pagan worldview. The characters party, do drugs, fornicate and do other harmful things, with little sign of any negative consequences, though one character eventually dies from drugs. This doesn’t seem to stop the main character from smoking weed, another character from being an alcoholic, and a third character from cheating people for money.

WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS is a mediocre movie. Clearly the music is the best part and the editing is the best while the music is playing. The director is known for “Catfish,” a MTV television show for Millennials. This movie seems to have been for the Millennial audience interested in Electronic Dance Music (EDM), though the EDM crowd probably will be at a club on Friday and Saturday nights, not at a movie. Some scenes are awkwardly paced. Also, the side characters are poorly acted. Though the movie is entertaining and has some good music. Overall, WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS is not a memorable movie.
