Mandy Moore has joined Nate Bargatze’s THE BREADWINNER movie, his first foray into feature films since breaking onto the comedy scene.

“It’s going to be hard to make something and then have to wait to see it,” Bargatze said. “I’m used to immediate reactions. Plus, I don’t know the first thing about making a movie. I’m excited to figure it all out — what works, what’s funny, what needs tweaking. It’s going to be a whole new world, and I can’t wait to learn.”

While the project will serve as Bargatze’s first major acting role, he has assembled a strong surrounding cast to help the process run smoothly. Along with Moore, who will play the role of his on-screen wife, the movie also stars Stella Grace Fitzgerald, Birdie Borria and Charlotte Anne Tucker, who will play his daughters.

THE BREADWINNER follows Bargatze’s family as his “supermom wife, Katie, lands a deal on SHARK TANK. Subsequently, the lifelong breadwinner of the family becomes a stay-at-home dad and quickly realizes he’s in way over his head,” a synopsis of the story reads, per Deadline.

Bargatze co-wrote the script along with Dan Lagna and Emmy winner Eric Appel is set to direct. Jeremy Latcham is set to produce through Wonder Project.

While Bargatze is currently known for his hilarious stand-up, he doesn’t plan to stay in that lane forever. Rather, he is excited to explore comedy in new mediums and someday hopes to become like Adam Sandler, who, though he started with standup, is now known for his movies.

“I don’t plan on touring and doing stand-up forever. I want to make movies,” Bargatze told The New York Times in April. “People can think, if you get too big, are you going to change? The audience is very much in mind with everything that I will make. Again, I try not to do it for me. It’s for you. I want them to be able to trust that.”

His first step towards this process was launching the Nateland comedy banner last year, through which he helps shine a light on up-and-coming clean comedians, with plans to produce all of his future content through the company.

“With Nateland, the goal of it was that…as we start acquiring other stuff and trying to eventually build out a world, I just want people to know if Nateland is attached to it, you can know kind of what it’s going to be,” Bargatze explained. “I’m not saying it’s all going to fit everybody’s demands or whatever, but if you like my comedy, it’ll fit along those lines, and I think it’ll be fun.”

THE BREADWINNER serves as his first project away from stand-up and has the potential to be a major hit with the people, like Moore, who he has brought on board to help him get started.
