Standup comedian Nate Bargatze will soon star in his first-ever feature film, THE BREADWINNER.
“TriStar Pictures has pre-emptively acquired comedy pitch THE BREADWINNER from stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze and Dan Lagana, with Bargatze attached to star,” Deadline reported Nov. 4. “This will mark Bargatze’s first starring role in a feature film. He will also produce alongside Lagana. Jeremy Latcham is producing via Wonder Project.”
“Lagana co-wrote and executive produced Rudy Mancuso’s semi-autobiographical film MUSICA, which premiered to acclaim on Amazon in April. Prior to that, he served as showrunner on AMERICAN VANDAL at Netflix. He also co-created and showran Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous for MTV, the series that launched the career of Bo Burnham,” Deadline said. He also earned an Emmy nomination and Peabody Award for his involvement in AMERICAN VANDAL.
“Latcham is the producer of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES and BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE. He also serves as a senior adviser to the Wonder Project, where he is developing and producing a slate of films, with projects in the works at Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures,” Deadline added. “Latcham has an overall deal with Hasbro Entertainment, where he is developing a DUNGEONS & DRAGONS sequel, and has projects set up at Skydance and Lionsgate.”
Bargatze and Lagana are still working on the script and haven’t announced the plotline.
“Bargatze, widely known for his clean and relatable comedy for all ages, is the No. 1-earning comedian in the world according to Pollstar and currently selling out shows on his global The Be Funny tour,” Deadline reported. “His Netflix specials THE TENNESSEE KID and GREATEST AVERAGE AMERICAN premiered to rave reviews in 2019 and 2021, respectively, with the latter receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album.”
