THE CHOSEN star Reza Diako is sharing his thoughts on the “human, day-to-day” way faith is explored in the hit show

“What I love about the show and the current climate is that there’s potentially a resistance to the concept of faith, but I think faith reduced down is something quite quiet and gentle, and it reflects through actions and through the struggles of human, day-to-day life,” he said in a recent interview with Movieguide®.

Diako continued, “[THE CHOSEN] hits home in a much less presentational and much more human level, so anyone from any background, or wherever they’re at in their journey, can connect with that.”

He also spoke about how joining the show impacted his own faith, explaining, “Ultimately when you know life is known and unknown and when we’re in the unknown and every one of us face that, what is more helpful to anybody than faith? You’ve got to keep the faith.”

The actor took over the role of Philip starting in Season 4 from predecessor Yoshi Barrigas.

“I was a fan of the show before, and I’d seen Yoshi’s performance, and I wanted to do it justice and continue on from it,” he told Collider, adding that his performance was “a combination of working what I would say artistically by bringing yourself and looking at your similarities and differences.”

Diako also spoke to Movieguide® about THE CHOSEN’s fifth season, calling it “very tender and difficult and complex and nuanced.”

“As viewers, it’s a very complicated rollercoaster of a journey,” he said of the episodes, particularly the ones surrounding the Last Supper.

THE CHOSEN’s fifth season premiered in theaters earlier this year, bringing in $60 million at the global box office. Now, fans of the show are eagerly awaiting its streaming premiere on Prime Video on June 15.

The show’s streaming premiere on Prime Video is part of a recent deal showrunner Dallas Jenkins made with the company, giving Amazon MGM Studios first-look rights on all shows and movies from his 5&2 Studios.

“THE CHOSEN has had renowned success captivating audiences across generations, and we are looking forward to collaborating with Dallas and 5&2 Studios on a larger scale,” Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement. “As we look ahead, we see massive opportunities to develop additional faith-inspired content for our global Prime Video customers.”

Jenkins added, “For several years, the team at Amazon MGM Studios has proved over and over they’re passionate about this show and our fans. They’re going to make us better and get the show to more people, and I can’t wait to build this relationship.”

Like Diako, fans of THE CHOSEN from all over the world are happy to see the “quiet and gentle” depictions of faith — as well as the “complicated rollercoaster” of the events of Jesus’ life.
