Christian artist Ben Fuller shared how God dramatically delivered him from a lifestyle of alcohol and drugs after an invitation to church changed his life.

“…as a man that lived as a secret drug addict for 14 and a half years, I stood in that aisle way, and I felt the spirit of God,” he told inmates at San Quentin prison earlier this year. “Romans 10:9 says, ‘If you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, and God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.’ And I did just that, standing there in the aisle just by myself. I gave my full heart over to the Lord, and I said, ‘Fix it! You do it because I can’t!’”

He shared more about that moment in a recent interview with former country star Granger Smith.

“November 10th, 2019 is when I came out of the water like a freight train at Church of the City, and everything had just speedily happened right there,” Fuller said. “Everything was just fast forward, and God just hit the fast forward button on everything, it seemed like. And I’d look back and realized all the things and the times that He was coming after me and coming for me.”

“I started writing again, but all of a sudden my writing started changing. It was about redemption, it was about love, it was about Jesus, it was about the Holy Spirit, it was about light…And I just couldn’t stop,” he revealed.

Fuller realized that despite his past lifestyle of sin, God was there just waiting for him to come home.

“He was there the whole time. He was there through all of it,” he reflected.

Now, his life is completely different.

He explained, “I’ve never been the same since Jesus since I asked him in my heart.”

Fuller’s life change didn’t come without criticism, however. He lost many friends along the way, and many questioned him for giving his life to God and told him he needs to go back to his “roots.”

“I actually really was getting back to my roots, and that was being a child of the most high God,” Fuller laughed.

As his life changed, so did his music. Fuller left the bar scene and found himself secluded in nature, making music for Jesus.

“I find myself at this little log cabin an hour and a half south of Nashville,” he explained. “I rented this little cabin I wrote 117 songs in six months with some of the best Christian, Jesus-loving songwriters there are in this whole entire world.”

He continued, “All of a sudden all these lyrics and songs started coming and an album was put together.”

Ben Fuller explained that he may fail at times, but his faith and those who hold him accountable always lead him back to God.

“Trying my best as I fall, as I fail, as I lust, as I get back up again and scrape and pull and tear and just keep this word near and dear to my heart and open it every day,” he said.

Last year, he released a song called “If I Got Jesus.”

“If I got Jesus, I got all that I could ever need, take the world away from me, and I’ll be ok,” the lyrics read.

He posted this song to Instagram and said, “I’ve lived out those lyrics since the start of my year, as a whole lotta things in my life didn’t go as I planned… Can you imagine that? My plans huh? God, help me to continue to trust in You and Your plans, and thanks for letting me run to you when it all falls apart.”

Ben Fuller’s testimony is a great reminder that no one is too far from God to turn their life around.

Psalm 139:7-9 is a great reminder that even if we stray from God, He is there waiting for us to turn back to Him. It reads, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.”

Even if you feel far from God today, you are not. He is always waiting with open arms for us to return to Him.
