LUCY IN THE SKY

Quality:
**
Content:
-4 Intentional blasphemy, evil, gross immorality, and/or worldview problems. (To be avoided)
LUCY IN THE SKY tells the story of female American astronaut who struggles to reacclimate to her life on Earth after returning from her first space mission, then descends into adultery and madness. Loosely based on a true story, LUCY IN THE SKY is told in a rather dull fashion and has a strong humanist worldview with a high amount of immorality and strong foul language.

JOKER

Quality:
***
Content:
-4 Intentional blasphemy, evil, gross immorality, and/or worldview problems. (To be avoided)
JOKER stars Joaquin Phoenix in the title role of Batman’s future nemesis, in a story that imagines the origins of the psychotic supervillain known as the Joker. JOKER creates a politically correct version of the iconic villain as a man who’s become mentally and emotionally damaged and is eventually driven violently insane and angry against those who’ve done him wrong, including rich people and his own mother. JOKER ends up in an abhorrent place and contains lots of strong foul language and some extreme violence that may inspire some copycats.

PAIN AND GLORY

Quality:
***
Content:
-3 Excessive sex, violence, immorality, and/or worldview problems. (Sometimes excessive content such as violence is in otherwise redemptive movies.)
PAIN AND GLORY is a Spanish drama about a movie director named Salvador Mallo, who struggles with multiple medical issues as he aches not only for no more physical pain, but also the desire to direct and write movies again. PAIN AND GLORY is very artsy but falls short in giving the audience clarity of onscreen events. Also, the movie’s positive Christian references to God, prayer and forgiveness are spoiled by sexual references, homosexuality, drug use, brief excessive nudity, some foul language, and an ambivalent attitude toward monotheism.

SERENDIPITY (2019)

Quality:
***
Content:
-4 Intentional blasphemy, evil, gross immorality, and/or worldview problems. (To be avoided)
SERENDIPITY is a documentary by French artist Prune Nourry as she journeys through her own experiences with breast cancer and expresses herself through pieces of her art, with segments about her mastectomy and reconstructive breast surgery. SERENDIPITY is sometimes visually stunning and has some thought-provoking moments, but it also contains disturbing images, references to Buddhism, explicit nudity, brief foul language, and some Romantic elements.

WALLFLOWER

Quality:
**
Content:
-4 Intentional blasphemy, evil, gross immorality, and/or worldview problems. (To be avoided)
WALLFLOWER tells the true story of a massacre that happened after an electronic dance rave in Seattle back in 2006. Regrettably, WALLFLOWER is told in a rather uncompelling way that offers little insight, with an extreme amount of immoral content, including lots of foul language and drug use.
