Worship Leader Makes Simon Cowell Cry on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT

By Tess Farrand, Staff Writer

The summertime reality show, AMERICA’S GOT TALENT always captivates audiences with the range of abilities contestants bring to the stage. One singer, in particular, has rendered Simon Cowell speechless this season and brought the celebrity judge to tears.

Michael Ketterer is a professing believer and a part of the Influence Church in Anaheim Hills, CA where he serves as a member the of the worship band. The contestant and his wife, Ivey, parent six children, five of which were adopted through foster care.

Last night, Ketterer, sang a cover of James Bay’s “Us.” Cowell introduced Ketterer with kinds words, stating, “He’s actually just a great human being and a great singer, and I’m thrilled.” Earlier on the season Ketterer was captured giving praise to God for his success on the show and now his momentum continues as he gets closer to the possibility of winning.

After his chilling performance, judge Howie Mandell (DEAL OR NO DEAL) exclaimed, “People should be moved and inspired by you.” Cowell couldn’t even verbalize his emotions telling the show’s host, Tyra Banks, “Come back to me, come back to me.” Banks responded, “No, you’re emotional, and I want you to talk through it.” Cowell pressed on, “You’re a really special guy, and I don’t know, there’s just something about you…”

Perhaps that “something” is Jesus.

The Ketterer’s church family is very supportive of his endeavors on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT. On their website, they champion Ketterer, “We are so proud of our artist Michael Ketterer and his participation in Americas Got Talent season 13!  Ketterer and his family, including his five sons adopted out of foster care, are emblematic of the father’s heart.  AGT would not be the same without Michael Ketterer and his beautiful family. Be sure to tune into NBC’s, Americas Got Talent every Tuesday evening to keep up with Michael Ketterer and his story!”

Ketter and Ivey sat down with a video produced by White Chair Films for the multimedia platform, I Am Second®, which has also showcased the powerful testimonies of Chip and Joanna Gaines and Olympic Ice Skater, Scott Hamilton. In the nine-minute video, the Ketterer’s detail their parental journey that was filled with ups and downs. “Parenting wasn’t on our agenda when we got married.” God, however, had other plans, their firstborn child, Sophie, was born premature, weighing 3 pounds and 10 ounces. Eight years later, after much prayer and consideration, the couple along with their daughter, embarked upon the adoption journey which led them to foster and adopt the boys who were raised in a meth lab in the woods. Within a few years, God also brought two more boys into their home whom they adopted as their own. Ketterer boldly stated how the experience shaped his understanding of the gospel.

With the traction of Ketterer’s success on AGT, Ketter’s heart for family and submitting his plans to God points others back to the importance of family and God’s love for his children.
