What You Need To Know:
COCOMELON LANE is well-made with some catchy songs. It has good animation despite the lackluster art style, and the acting is good. The episodes feature a dominant Biblical worldview in which people go out of their way to care for others, with a strong focus on community. However, there is a homosexual worldview, as a same-sex family gets screen time in the second episode, celebrating Hanukkah. More Detail:
COCOMELON LANE 6.1 starts with a walk down CoComelon Lane. JJ and his family are going to see Santa Claus, but his sister, YoYo, decided to stay behind to work on a visual aid to show Santa. As they walk down the street, we get introduced to all the families and get to see what everyone is doing. One family is celebrating Kwanzaa, another Hanukkah, but most of them celebrate Christmas. One by one, every family joins them on their walk to see Santa.
Once they get there, JJ is first up to tell Santa what he wants. He also gets to sit there and see how Santa shows that he cares for everyone. But unfortunately, Santa leaves before YoYo arrives. She’s sad because she never got to tell Santa her wish, that it would snow and she and her family would be playing outside together. After JJ hears how much it means to her, he sets out on a quest to fulfill her wish with help from his friends and everyone on CoComelon Lane.
He dresses up as Santa-JJ, ready to make YoYo’s wish come true. The visual aid YoYo made to show Santa was a snowglobe of the first Christmas she had ever seen snow. So, Santa JJ tried to recreate the scene from the snow globe. He and his friends craft a whole backdrop. They also had a ton of paper snowflakes. But while they were setting up to surprise YoYo, a strong gust of wind came in and ruined everything. Fortunately, the community came together and tried to save the day.
COCOMELON LANE 6.2 features three different stories. The first story revolves around Cody and his family. For her first Christmas, Cody got his little sister an ornament. He can’t wait to give it to her. Unfortunately, he can’t go to sleep because he is too excited. Instead of going to bed, Cody helps with some-minute decorating, which tires him out and makes him ready to fall asleep.
The second story follows a group of friends going to Nico’s house to make dreidels. Once everyone makes a dreidel, they spin it, except for JJ. JJ can’t spin the dreidel because he doesn’t know how. Nico’s dad tells JJ about being open and honest, letting his friends know he feels left out because he can’t spin the dreidel like the rest of them. The friends help him out. The final story also revolved around Cody. He got to play in the snow and made a snowman. He was upset when he realized he couldn’t take the snowman home, so he decided to make him a snow-friend.
COCOMELON LANE is well-made with some catchy songs; the intro song is the best. It has good animation despite the lackluster art style, and the acting is good. However, something feels off about COCOMELON LANE. Maybe it’s the fact that there is no plot or actual engagement. Instead, they garner attention with bright colors, catchy jingles, and quick-paced episodes. This go-go-go mindset makes it more of a distraction than a tv show. Its stories are half-baked, and you will probably forget the point of the story before the episode finishes.
When it comes to worldview, COCOMELON LANE has a dominant Biblical worldview, where people go out of their way to care for and help others. There is also a big focus on community. One great example is episode 1, where JJ got everyone on the street to help him get his sister what she wanted for Christmas. However, there is a homosexual worldview too as a same-sex family get screen time in the second episode, celebrating Hanukkah. There is also a humanist worldview. There is no mention of God even in episodes revolving around Christmas and Hanukkah. Lastly, there is a bit of a pagan worldview, as a family celebrates Kwanza.
While it is well-made, there isn’t a whole lot of substance there. They don’t even dive into the meaning of Christmas, or Hanukkah, for that matter. However, with a good, dominant Biblical worldview, centered around community, it shines brightest and is in no way bogged down by the opposing worldviews. While there may be better shows like BLUEY, for instance, this is not a bad pick as it has some worthwhile content.
The first two episodes of Season 6 of COCOMELON LANE are generally family-friendly with no violence, foul language, or sexual content. MOVIEGUIDE® recommends caution for children all of ages due to the LGBTQ+ couple featured and advises that children aged two and under to have no screen time, while preschoolers aged three to five should have extremely limited screen time.
