Country Singer Russell Dickerson Talks Church and His New Baby

By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer

Country singer Russell Dickerson revealed that he was raised on music, and it all started in church.

Growing up, the singer said, “My dad was the choir director at church … and my mom played piano at church and she led the children’s choir.”

He soon began taking piano lessons himself, and by 16, he was playing the guitar, Fox News reported.

“That’s when I got hooked,” he shared. “When you’ve got that guitar and you can play along with all of your favorite songs in your room or whatever, that’s what got me hooked on music.”

Dickerson’s career has been anything but easy.

“It’s definitely been a slow journey,” he said.

He signed a deal in 2010 after graduating from Belmont University, but it would take almost 10 years for Dickerson to hit it big.

At the end of 2018, the father-to-be shared a lengthy Instagram post about how that year had changed his life, and it all focused on Jesus.

“So many things that @kaileydickerson and I have been praying for years and it’s happening. This year I can finally say it’s all starting to happen!!!” he wrote. “The first words that come to my mind to describe this year are reap, exhaustion, finally, and thank you Jesus!”

He continued, “Reap: after 8 years of sowing seeds year after year after year knowing that God had called us to this we finally had a year I could call an amazing harvest. Exhaustion: I’ve never played so many shows, had so many flights, phone calls, interviews etc than I have this year.

“Finally: because there’s was no chance I was giving up on this dream and 8 years later finally we’re starting to see the things we’ve been believing for!! And Thank You Jesus!!!!!!!” He added, “Because without the vision and the strength to do this day after day none of this would have been possible. So cheers 2018. I’ll never forget you! 2019 gonna be even better!”

Now, two years later, he and his wife, Kaylie, are expecting a little boy to make his arrival sometime this month.

When talking about their little one and preparing for him, he said, “How prepared can you be, honestly?”

Dickerson has been very open about his wife’s pregnancy and how excited he is to be a father on his Instagram.

“THE DAD SHOES ARE OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL! WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!,” he wrote in one post.

In another photo he posted of his wife and her growing belly he wrote, “My little guy is IN THERE! A human being. Our little chunky nugget is gonna be here soon!!!!!!”
