Meet We The Kingdom, the Band Making Waves in Contemporary Christian Music

By Movieguide® Staff

Christian band We the Kingdom may be relatively new to the contemporary Christian music scene, but the generational group has a powerful message to share.

The band features Ed Cash, his children Franni and Martin, his brother Scott, and their friend Andrew Bergthold.

In 2019, the group penned their first song, “Dancing on the Waves,” which started them on a path to multiple Dove Award and Grammy Award nominations and wins.

“We had no idea the trajectory of what that song would do,” Bergthold told The Christian Post. “That song started the journey of We the Kingdom. A couple of months later, we started writing more songs shortly after that. I was like, ‘Well, I have a name and website and social media, and everything else set up if we want to use it.'”

Previously, Bergthold had tried to start the band but was unsuccessful. But with the help of the Cash family, Bergthold’s vision gained recognition.

“Everybody loved it and jumped on board. As I was driving home from that, I just started crying because I heard the Lord telling me, ‘This is the reason I gave you these dreams, and just because it wasn’t right at that time doesn’t mean I’m not faithful, and it won’t come through.'”

In 2020, the group won the GMA Dove Award for Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year for their title track, “Holy Water.”

Now the band hopes to encourage people with their upcoming single, “Miracle Power.”

“It’s crazy just to see the faithfulness and the miracles that God does in your life, and We the Kingdom looks different than I would have ever imagined,” he continued. “But it’s way better. Because it’s God’s plan, it’s God’s time.”

Despite their success, Ed Cash confessed that the band formed at a time when they had gone through hurt caused by the church.

“I think one of the greatest dangers is to put on the face of God the pastor that hurt us or the parent that hurt us or the friend or the enemy or whoever,” Ed told The Christian Post. “We see versions of Jesus in these Christians who are just broken people and then we end up thinking that that’s what God looks like. God looks nothing like any man that has ever lived, and it’s not even close. His ways are higher than our ways, and it’s not fair to God to put onto Him the wounded people that live in this world. He’s holy; He’s perfect. And I think for our minds, for my mind, that is so hard to understand some days.”

“I think, ultimately, it’s just important to remember that He’s a loving father,” he added. “He loves His kids.”
