THE BOSS BABY: BACK IN THE CRIB Values Family Above All Else

By Movieguide® Contributor

The popular cartoon THE BOSS BABY is back at it with another comical series!

THE BOSS BABY: BACK IN THE CRIB follows grown up Ted as he is framed for embezzlement and must become the infamous Boss Baby once again. He moves back in with his brother’s family as a baby in order to avoid the eyes of the FBI. Streaming on Netflix, THE BOSS BABY: BACK IN THE CRIB is the latest series based on the original BOSS BABY movie written by Michael McCullers which is based on the book by Marla Frazee. Produced by DreamWorks Animation, the series stars Krizia Bajos, Mara Junot, Karan Soni, Miss Benny, Mary Faber, JP Karliak, Alex Cazares, and Zeke Alton.

Adult Ted Templeton is enjoying his life when he is framed for a corporate crime and the FBI starts chasing him down. Ted knows his only option to avoid prison is to turn back into Boss Baby and move in with his brother’s family, pretending to be one of the kids.

Ted has to secure a job back at Baby Corp in order to receive a supply of formula to keep him a baby 24/7 and remain undercover. Unfortunately, it seems Ted will have to outshine baby Tina, his niece, in order to get a job since none are available. Ted does in fact try to get Tina fired in order to take her spot, but in the end Tina and Ted must now work together!

The two babies struggle to share a position since both are used to solely being in charge and running missions on their own. Boss Baby and Tina must learn to co-lead just in time to take down a newly found Baby Corp archnemesis, the Uncuddleables.

Mission by mission, Ted and Tina fight back against the Uncuddleables as the babysitting group is out to bring down the baby love meter and destroy Baby Corp. 5 percent babies, the ones earning the most for the baby love meter, are continually under attack. The Uncuddleables target these special babies, trying to take away their “super powers” and in turn break the baby love meter. The baby known for his beautiful hair is repeatedly given lice, the baby known for presence on television is wrongfully taught obscenities, and the list goes on.

As babies working for Baby Corp, Ted and Tina cannot believe this monstrosity and work to stop the archnemesis at all costs. That is, until older sister Tabitha opens their eyes to the real reason behind the Uncuddleables actions… The truth is revealed, leaving Baby Corp members Ted and Tina on a different page than the rest of the company. Will this be the end of Baby Corp??? Or the end of Ted and Tina??

THE BOSS BABY: BACK IN THE CRIB has a predominately moral worldview as, in the end, everything points back to family, truthfulness, justice, love, and more. Characters believe they are doing the right thing standing up for their company and fellow babies, fighting off the bad guys. When the truth is revealed, babies go against the company they know and love in order to stand up for what is morally right. Although there is a great amount of scatological humor and potty talk, characters who act selfishly or with bad intent, and some elements of anti-Christian worldviews, the moral qualities outweigh them all in the end.

There are no obscenities in the series, but there is one episode surrounding babies learning a bad word that is bleeped out and never said in English. There is a great deal of potty language, as expected from a series surrounding babies, as well as demeaning jokes with words such as “loser.” There are no straight up profanities. There are a handful of comments made such as “demon bean bag”, “the devils floss”, and “doing the devil’s work”; although the comments just seem to imply something “bad” rather than the actual devil.

The violence depicted is nothing too realistic, just a lot of cartoon babies crashing into things, falling off bikes, scenes involving intense chases and crashes, etc. Most of which is done in a humorous way so it is not scary or upsetting. There is no nudity, just babies in diapers. There is absolutely no sexual content, no smoking or drug use, and no alcohol use. Miscellaneous immorality might include lying, sabotage, and other bad habits or actions to produce personal gain.

The production value of THE BOSS BABY: BACK IN THE CRIB holds up to the standards of previous BOSS BABY content. The series effortlessly keeps viewers entertained with its adorable babies and hilarious content! If anything, there is maybe a bit too much content on the comical side and the script could have benefited from additional positive content. Overall, the series was brilliantly done with vivid colors, beautiful animation, hilarious content, and positive lessons to learn from it all!

THE BOSS BABY: BACK IN THE CRIB presents a moral worldview displaying characters who value family above all else and always do the right thing in the end. Family is valued highly and held in high regard, characters do what they believe is right—apologizing and changing behaviors when they do something wrong; and love, justice—and honesty prevails in the end. There is a decent amount of scatological humor and potty talk as well as characters who act with bad intent for their own selfish gain, but morals and positive lessons outweigh them.
