Jenna Bush Hager gets a spiritual boost each morning, thanks to her dad, former president George W. Bush’s, daily Bible verse texts.

“I actually wake up every morning to a text from my dad that’s a different Bible verse,” she said during an episode of TODAY. “I wasn’t included at the beginning. It started when my sister had a bad breakup and my dad just started texting her every morning. And it was something really small but something very steady that she’d look up to.”

Co-host Hoda Kotb said she could relate, explaining that Hager and co-host Savannah Guthrie “have each texted me something full of faith and meaning at a time when I needed it the most.”

A Bible verse text to his daughters isn’t the only thing Bush does every day. Hager recently revealed he has another daily task.

“Do you know what my dad does every single morning?” she said during another episode of TODAY. “He calls his best friend every single morning to say good morning and check in on him.”

Hager is currently still on the hunt for a new co-host following Kotb’s departure in January.

“We’re still searching,” she told PEOPLE. “We definitely want somebody permanent at some point just because that’s our show, and I think the TODAY show is such a family. So to have somebody sit in that seat means a lot to all of us. So it will happen. I think we’ve all just been kind of living day by day and we don’t have any developments yet, but we will.”

However, Hager and Kotb still have plenty of opportunities to spend time together on camera; Kotb just returned for an episode of JENNA & FRIENDS to fill the co-host slot.

“It was so nice,” Hager told PEOPLE of the reunion, comparing the pair’s relationship to “your best friend from college” or “your childhood best friend.”

She continued, “Even if time goes by, there’s a connection that is undeniable, and I felt that way being with her. I just felt like my nervous system kind of relaxed and it was so nice to be with her. There could have been no better reunion. It felt really great.”

Even though Hager misses having Kotb by her side each morning, she shared that she’s happy to see her “in such an exciting place of her next chapter and she’s so excited about it.”

As Hager continues her search for a new co-host, her dad’s daily scripture texts are sure to boost her spirits and give her encouragement.
