Elizabeth Tabish is going from one miraculous story to another. Best known from her role as Mary Magdalene in THE CHOSEN, the actress will now star in a drama that focuses on medical miracles.

Based on a true story, ONE IN A MILLION follows “the Kassis family, whose healthy young son, Jade, is suddenly stricken with Hlh — a rare and deadly blood disorder that throws them into a battle for his life. As doctors race to find answers and the family strives to maintain hope, the project ‘explores the line between the medical and the miraculous,’” a synopsis reads.

HLH stands for “Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.” According to John Hopkins Medicine, this is a “a rare disease that usually occurs in infants and young children. It may also occur in adults. Children usually inherit the disease…If you have HLH, your body’s defense system, called your immune system, does not work normally. Certain white blood cells — histiocytes and lymphocytes — attack your other blood cells. These abnormal blood cells collect in your spleen and liver, causing these organs to enlarge.”

TWILIGHT’s Ashley Greene plays mom Cindy Kassis while Tabish plays the family’s physician. Russell Quinn of CSI: NY, Andy Buckley of THE OFFICE and Roxton Garcia of HEELS round out the medical drama’s cast.

“The Kassis family’s real-life account truly moved me when I heard what they went through as a family unit and how they never lost their faith in each other, faith in the medical staff and faith in what they believe in,” said director Tanner Beard. “It’s such a powerful narrative and one I felt very honored to tell, especially with Ashley Greene Khoury, Russell Quinn and the rest of the amazing cast.”

Photography for the movie is currently taking place in Dallas.

This isn’t Tabish’s only faith-based project outside of THE CHOSEN. Earlier this year, the actress starred in BETWEEN BORDERS which tells the story of an Armenian family facing persecution under the Soviet Union who rely heavily on their faith.

“When I read the script, I just connected with it so much. It was such a beautiful story,” she said of BETWEEN BORDERS. “It’s a gift for me to do these types of projects. It’s kind of a dream come true to be able to tell stories that uplift and inspire hope.”

ONE IN A MILLION is poised to be yet another movie that will encourage and inspire viewer’s faith.
