Despite a big loss on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston was so “grateful” to be back on the field with his teammates.

According to FOX Sports, Winston led the first half with two “touchdown drives, including one to open the game. Winston’s first rushing touchdown of the season in the third quarter gave New York a brief 20-19 lead, but it wasn’t enough as New York was outscored 14-7 in the second half.”

The Packers took the win 27-20.

When asked what it was like to be back on the field with his teammates, the quarterback said, “So grateful, man. I was so grateful. I really wanted to win for these guys, man. How we dominated the line of scrimmage, we ran the ball effectively. We did some good things in the passing game. [Interim head coach Mike Kafka] Kaf did an incredible job calling this game. I really wanted to win this one for us.”

Winston explained what it will take to finish out close games like this one.

“Simplicity to me, finishing out as a team. All of us collectively can do one small thing to continue to get better to finish this game. I think that’s the important thing. We’re right there at the end of it. We just have to finish the game, and we will, we’ll find a way to finish because it’s required to finish in this league,” he shared, per the New York Giants.

Winston appreciated that Kafka pushed the team to be aggressive, which is Winston’s style of play.

“It started with the offensive line, man. They just played amazing against an amazing front. They played incredible,” he said. “When you have an offensive line that’s dominating up front and you’re efficient in the run game, you can be more aggressive, you can challenge their DBs a little bit more. Our running backs and our offensive line really controlled this game for us. That was the key to allowing us to be more aggressive.”

Despite the loss, Winston knows where his true victory lies.

“‘The horse is prepared for battle, but victory comes from the Lord.’ – Proverbs 21:31,” he posted on X on Saturday.

While Sunday’s game didn’t go as Winston hoped, he led the team well as rookie starting quarterback Jaxson Dart completes a concussion protocol.

The Giants face off against the Detroit Lions this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
