Elizabeth Tabish Shares Hopes for New Movie BETWEEN BORDERS

By Movieguide® Contributor

Elizabeth Tabish is sharing the personal connection she felt to her latest movie, BETWEEN BORDERS.

“In a crumbling Soviet Union, the Petrosyan family finds themselves as outcasts — wherever they go,” a description of the movie reads. “Their Armenian heritage marks them for discrimination, first in their home country of Azerbaijan and then in Russia. After finding their eternal hope through a church planted by American missionaries, the hostility of everyday life pushes them to seek refuge in the United States. In the shadow of exile, hope became their home.”

In an interview with Movieguide®, Tabish explained, “Due to racial tensions, they pretty much had to flee their home.”

“They really struggled to find peace [in Russia], and while they were there, they were introduced to these wonderful Christian missionaries,” she continued. “It was kind of a leap of faith for them to test this out and experience something very different and very new for them. But it clearly changed their life.”

Tabish called the movie “a really beautiful story about them seeking a home in this world…and also really finding home, I think, in their faith.”

The actress shared that BETWEEN BORDERS explores “those sort of very difficult challenges as Christians, to love your enemies or to love the people that despise you, and in this story, we get to see that played out, and we get to see that that type of love for not just their family, but the people that they’re near, and that ripple effect of their love.”

Tabish also shared her own personal connection to the story, as her family is Armenian.

“When I read the script, I just connected with it so much. It was such a beautiful story,” she said. “It’s a gift for me to do these types of projects. It’s kind of a dream come true to be able to tell stories that uplift and inspire hope.”

BETWEEN BORDERS will be in theaters Jan. 26-28.

In addition to promoting BETWEEN BORDERS, Tabish is also preparing for the upcoming season of THE CHOSEN, where she plays Mary Magdalene.

“It’s an incredibly intense season,” she told The Christian Post of the new episodes. “Some of my favorite moments in the Gospels are portrayed. The Last Supper is a theme throughout, and it’s just incredible. There’s one scene in particular that I think a lot of women are really going to love. We get a chance to see the hearts of all of these female followers of Christ, and it’s going to be a really touching scene, so I’m excited for people to see that. Mary gets a little feisty this season and really is on a mission, and so we kind of get to see a different side of her, which is fun.”
