New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson doesn’t let his past mistakes define him.
A video from his college career with the Ohio State Buckeyes shows him shoving a player from the opposing team, receiving a penalty, but then scoring a touchdown several minutes later.
After that game, Henderson spoke to the media about how he took some time with God after that costly mistake.
“Man, it was a battle. Especially after making this mistake on the field, you know, with the penalty,” he said in the video. “Just spending some time with the Lord on the sideline, asking for His forgiveness and helping me to repent, to turn away, because that’s not the person I want to be.”

“And, you know, His hand is always there, you know, and man, He picked me up in that moment,” the running back continued. “And my teammate, he told me, just focus on Jesus. And so I’m just thankful, man, for my brothers in Christ to be there to pick me up and help me to focus on the Lord and just, man, yeah, God made a way.”
Henderson’s action put 1 John 1:9 on full display. The verse reads, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
“HUMILITY MATTERS… Jesus loves you‼️,” FCA of North Pinellas shared in the caption of the post. “The Lord is good to us and faithful to forgive us when we truly repent and turn to Him with our faith! TreVeyon Henderson shows us a perfect example of God’s love, grace, and forgiveness.
“TreVeyon and the entire Ohio State football team have been an amazing example of how we should give all glory to God, and put Him above everything else!” the post continued. “Keep God first and allow everything else you do to flow from that.”
Henderson hasn’t shied away from sharing his faith even though he’s in the NFL now.
“Honestly, man, I really just thank God,” he told the media after scoring three touchdowns in one game earlier this month. “It was a tough game. It was a really tough game, and we knew it was gonna be tough going into it. A lot of ups and downs during that game, but specifically during those down moments, I was just trying my best to lean on God to pick me up and give me the strength to keep going.”
Henderson’s story is a powerful reminder of what God can do with someone who repents and submits their life and actions to Him.
