Fans Livid Over LORD OF THE RINGS Series Potential Nudity, Sexual Content
By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer
LORD OF THE RINGS fans are speaking out as Amazon sets to make their LOTR series more like GAME OF THRONES than the original source material.
J.R.R. Tolkein’s LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy is a Christian allegory that contains no overt sexual content.
Yahoo News reported that casting calls for the upcoming series say they are seeking “talent who are comfortable with partial or full nudity.”
Amazon has also hired an intimacy coordinator Jennifer Ward-Lealand, which leads fans to believe that the rumors about sexual content are true.
Fans have taken to social media to voice their distaste for Amazon’s casting call.
Ah, yes… what was missing from the Lord of the Rings franchise was definitely nudity… Thanks to Amazon Prime for, apparently, working on adding that to the upcoming series. (Eye roll).

My frustration with politics is one thing, but I swear… If @PrimeVideo puts nudity in their Lord of the Rings series, I will personally make it my goal to bring down the entire @Amazon business.
Literally, just don’t do it.

Word is the Amazon Lord of the Rings show will have nudity. Amazon, don’t be HBO. We have an HBO and we already want HBO to stop being so HBO.

I don’t know what @amazon thinks is doing by trying to include nudity in their Lord of the Rings production, but I have suddenly lost interest. While that has a place in GOT and the Witcher, it goes against Tolkien’s lore and fantasy world.

The new series just started filming after being put on hold during the coronavirus pandemic and will take place in the “second age” of Middle Earth.
Amazon has green-lit the show for five seasons, and it is set to premiere in 2021, Yahoo reports.
GOT’s gratuitous sexual content drastically scarred one of the series’ lead stars.
Movieguide® previously reported how GAME OF THRONES star Emilia Clarke spoke out about how damaging those scenes were for her on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast.
“I have no idea what I’m doing, I have no idea what any of this is, I’ve never been on a film set like this before,” she remembered. “And now I’m on a film set completely naked with all of these people.”
She would dismiss her feelings, have a cry in the bathroom, and then return to filming. That’s when a co-star, Jason Momoa, stepped in. Momoa plays Khal Drogo, who rapes Daenerys after she’s sold into marriage with him. Later in the show, she develops feelings for him.
“The scenes, when I got to do them with Jason, were wonderful because he was like, ‘No, sweetie, this isn’t okay,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh,’” Clarke said.
She acknowledged that filming nude “is terrifying” and that, during rape scenes, Momoa was even “crying more than I was.”
Let’s hope that Amazon listens to fans, retracts the casting call, and sticks to the themes in the original source material.
