The Dallas Wings’ rookie point guard Paige Bueckers shared how she perseveres through that adversity after her team finally overcame their loosing streak.
“I feel like on the other side of a hard time is a really big blessing,” she told the media after the game a few weeks ago. “So continuing to keep that faith. It’s easy to believe in God and think all things are well when you’re coming off a national championship and you’re winning games. You have a winning record, but how are you — and how is your character — when you have a losing record? To remain the same and steadfast in your faith is something that I try to embody.”
According to Sportskeeda, Beuckers has had a great rookie season, but the Wings are sitting at the bottom with an 8-24 record.
On Tuesday, Bueckers and Wings broke a five-game losing streak when they beat the Indiana Fever 81-80. Bueckers led her team with “16 points on 6-of-19 shooting, five rebounds and eight assists. And she accompanied the win with a historic WNBA feat,” per Athlon Sports.
Before Tuesday’s game, Bueckers had 11-straight games with “at least 15 points and five assists, marking the third-most by a rookie in WNBA history. Against the Fever, she hit those marks for the 12th time, tying her for the second-most ever by a rookie.”
Four weeks ago, Bueckers took to Instagram to share several photos from her first year in the league.
“Growing through it all. Halfway through. Thank you, God,” she wrote.
In February, she spoke with Fox News Digital about her faith and how talking about God has become more common among pro athletes.
“Yeah, I think people are more outward in their faith and more comfortable talking about it,” she told the outlet. “I feel like the more you see it, the more popularized it becomes and the more comfortable everybody comes with it. But yeah, I definitely think it’s growing in terms of being outspoken about it.”
Last year, after Bueckers put up 32 points against Syracuse in the NCAA tournament, the point guard reflected on her career and how far she has come after two ACL tears.
“I prayed so hard a year ago today to be in my shoes where I’m at right now, so just to appreciate it, especially playing here in front of the best fans in the country with the best teammates and the best coaching staff in the world,” Bueckers told reporters, per Fox News Digital. “I give all glory to God, all glory to my coaching staff, and my teammates for instilling that confidence within me just to have fun and play my game.”
Whether winning or losing, Bueckers makes sure her faith and character never waver.
