SOUND OF FREEDOM Dominates Box Office on Opening Day

By Movieguide® Contributor

On July 4, Angel Studios film, SOUND OF FREEDOM became the top Box Office movie in America on its release date July 4.

SOUND OF FREEDOM grossed a total of $14.3 million in ticket sales in its debut, a whopping $3 million more than INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY.

Co-owner of Angel Studios, Jordan Harmon, told The Daily Signal, “As exciting that it is to hit the number 1 spot for this summer opening, it doesn’t even come close to the excitement that the number means for awareness of this issue.”

The SOUND OF FREEDOM Movie Twitter account posted a goal of reaching 2 million people for the 2 million children that are trafficked each year. Just by looking at the numbers, Movieguide® would say they will far surpass the goal!

Due to Angel Studios internal data, Harmon knew this film would bring in “significantly more than anybody projected,” however, “this blew us away.”

“The early projections had sound of freedom at $10 million for the whole week, to do $14-plus million on opening day is wild,” Harmon added. “We’re thrilled to death, there’s a lot to do and there’s awareness to be brought to this incredible cause.”

In addition, CEO of Angel Studios, Neal Harmon stated, “Thanks to fans around the country, SOUND OF FREEDOM earned the top spot as Americaʼs number one movie on Independence Day. Weʼve received numerous messages telling us theaters are either packed or sold out. This movie has now taken on a life of its own to become something more than that, a grassroots movement. With an A+ CinemaScore rating, weʼre the top-rated movie in America, and weʼre going to see word-of-mouth spread even further going into the weekend. The world needs to see SOUND OF FREEDOM, and we know that our biggest competitive advantage—our incredible fans and investors—are going to make sure that happens.”

Lastly, Jeffrey Harmon, Co-Founder of Angel Studios shared on Twitter, “Sound of Freedom and Angel Studios are in a full on theatrical dogfight this week for additional showtimes and larger auditoriums against the biggest studios in the world. We are having sellouts nationwide, but so many are being turned away because there are no seats left.”

He continued, “This was exactly the strategy. But it’s a miracle it’s actually working. The only way for an startup studio to enter theatrical on the 4th of July is by brute force. Our team has voluntarily put in calculable hours because they can sense this can rescue many children. It’s an honor to get a small part of such a significant movement.”

Movieguide® recently reported:

Director, Alejandro Monteverde, felt called by God to create SOUND OF FREEDOM.

The Christian Post reported, “Today is one of the most important days of my life, and I’m so grateful,” Monteverde expressed in a red-carpet interview.

“There are two types of stories, the ones that I want to make and the ones that I was called to make and this one I was called to make,” he added.

The Angel Studios film tells the true story of Tim Ballard’s journey to fight and end child sex trafficking. The studio encourages families with teens to watch the film together so that the teens can be educated about the evil that occurs in this world.
