SOUND OF FREEDOM Director on the Fight Against Human Trafficking

By Movieguide® Contributor

Director, Alejandro Monteverde, felt called by God to create SOUND OF FREEDOM.

The Christian Post reported, “Today is one of the most important days of my life, and I’m so grateful,” Monteverde expressed in a red-carpet interview.

“There are two types of stories, the ones that I want to make and the ones that I was called to make and this one I was called to make,” he added.

The Angel Studios film tells the true story of Tim Ballard’s journey to fight and end child sex trafficking. The studio encourages families with teens to watch the film together so that the teens can be educated about the evil that occurs in this world.

Monteverde told the Christian Post that he is very serious about what Jesus told his disciples in Luke 17:1-2, “It is inevitable that stumbling blocks will come, but woe to the one through whom they come! It would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.”

When Monteverde was at the premiere for SOUND OF FREEDOM he suggested to his friend and film producer, Eduardo Verástegui to “run for president” so that the fight to end child sex trafficking would continue.

ChurchPOP Editor posted a video on YouTube where Verástegui stated, “I’m thinking about it. I’m praying about it a lot.”

Verástegui recently told the Christian Post that he wishes to “put pressure on the government so these things become a prime priority, not just for the government, for everyone.”

“What really hurts me the most is that the people who are doing this to these kids are human beings like you and me, made of the same. This is not people who are coming from other planets that are our enemies. This is people like us. So, in what moment, what happened to these guys?” Verástegui added. “They were kids at some point full of dreams. So, what happened in what moment they decided to, ‘You know what? I’m going to use my life to hurt kids.’

SOUND OF FREEDOM will hit theaters July 4. Angel Studios hopes that at least two million people attend the film in honor of the two million children who have currently fallen victim to child sex trafficking.

A part of Movieguide®’s review for SOUND OF FREEDOM reads

SOUND OF FREEDOM follows the inspiring true story of Tim Ballard, a former government agent who puts his life on the line to rescue hundreds of children from sex trafficking. After an operation that saves a young boy from trafficking, Tim learns the boy’s sister has also been sold into the sex trade. At first, he continues to operate under Homeland Security, but when funds run out, he takes matters into his own hands. With the help of a small team, Tim launches an investigation to save the boy’s sister, save many other children and bring the perpetrators to justice.

SOUND OF FREEDOM is gripping and heartbreaking, but hope-giving. The movie sheds light on the need for strong people to stand up for God’s children around the world who are caught in the vicious, abusive system of sex trafficking. SOUND OF FREEDOM has a strong Christian, moral worldview that promotes sacrifice and the message that “God’s children are not for sale.” MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong and extreme caution for the movie’s mature subject matter, implied and depicted violence, and abuse of children.
