Struggling? Chuck Norris Has Some Godly Advice

By Movieguide® Contributor

As depression rates soar in the U.S., Chuck Norris is reminding Americans to focus on faith and family.

A 2023 Gallup poll reported that “the percentage of U.S. adults who report having been diagnosed with depression at some point in their lifetime has reached 29.0%, nearly 10 percentage points higher than in 2015. The percentage of Americans who currently have or are being treated for depression has also increased, to 17.8%, up about seven points over the same period.”

These increased rates of depression and dissatisfaction are linked to “stressful circumstances” — specifically, financial woes.

An American Psychological Association study found that “72% of Americans feel stressed about money at least some of the time.”

In an article for World Net Daily, Norris emphasized the importance of relying on the important things to get you through hard times.

“Worries and anxiety will haunt you ‘until the cows come home,’” the actor said. “Let go and let God…Troubles come and troubles go, but we don’t need to focus on them when there is so much right and good going on in our lives and even the world every minute. Where’s our focus and hope? In our supply or the divine Supplier who has promised to provide?”

Norris counseled people to lean on the people (or animals) in their lives — “God’s greatest gifts to us come in the form of our relationships. Don’t take one for granted, with two legs or four.”

The WALKER, TEXAS RANGER star also reminded readers to take strength in their own courage and willingness to strike out on new paths, as well as the power of perseverance.

“If you’ve been successful, odds are it didn’t come because you were born with a silver spoon,” Norris said. “The hard work we hated as kids made us who we are today, right? It’s still true: When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Grit and perseverance still win the gold!”

Norris isn’t the only celebrity directing people towards faith in troubling times. Christian artist Lauren Daigle has also shared her experiences leaning on God when she’s struggling. Movieguide® previously reported:

Lauren Daigle is sharing some encouraging words for those struggling with anxiety and depression.

“I have dealt with panic attacks,” she said in a video for Air1Radio. “That was kind of a new thing in my life. Anxiety, depression. And the more I decided to lean into God and say ‘God, despite what I see, despite the chaos that is surrounding me and the way that I feel and the way that all of this works; despite that chaos, I have to trust that You know what is greater.’”

Daigle admitted that “there are moments where that trust is definitely shaken,” but she encouraged others to bring those doubts to God.

“I bring it up with Him, whether it is trauma that has induced panic, whether it’s trauma that’s inducing anxiety, whether it’s trauma that’s induced depression — it doesn’t have the final say over your life,” the singer explained. “It doesn’t have the full control. You might feel out of control, but it actually does not have the full control.

“The beauty of God is that He will meet you right where you are,” Daigle said. “Do your best to go through. Don’t retreat because you have everything in you that is capable and needed for the course at hand.”
